The Norwegian Karsten Warholm stormed the 400 meter hurdles to Olympic victory in a fabulous world record time.
The two-time world champion ran in Tokyo in 45.94 seconds to triumph over the American Rai Benjamin (46.17).
Alison dos Santos (46.72) from Brazil secured bronze.
"That's crazy," said the 25-year-old beaming.
“I've trained like a madman and I've devoted all of my time to it.
Now I have to set myself new goals because I'm not finished yet. "This triumph is simply" very special "for him.
Warholm had already broken the previous decades-old world record at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo on July 1st.
In his home game at Bislett Stadium, he won in 46.70 seconds.
The world and European champion was eight hundredths of a second below the almost 29-year-old American Kevin Young at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
The three German starters Joshua Abuaku, Luke Campbell and Constantin Preis were all eliminated in the semifinals in Tokyo.
