A Swiss team horse had to be euthanized on Sunday after injuring itself in the cross country eventing event at the Tokyo Olympics, the Swiss Olympic Committee said.

The horse, Jet Set, severely tore a ligament in his front right leg while landing from a jump.
"
Due to the severity of the injury and the pain it caused, the horse had to be euthanized shortly after,
" said the committee's statement.
Rider Robin Godel was not injured in the accident.
The Swiss Olympic Committee stressed that the accident was due neither to a fault of the rider nor to faults in the course of the Seaforest Cross Country Course.
The Swiss team specifies that "
despite the tragic accident, (she) decided to participate in the final jumping competition
" on Monday.
The replacement rider Eveline Bodenmüller rode Violaine de la Brasserie to finish the competition.
