Rather calm start to the day in Tokyo.

Before Renaud Lavillenie's pole vault final or the quarter-finals in basketball and volleyball, the handball players easily won against Bahrain (42-28) to validate their ticket for the semi-finals.

In rowing, Manon Hostens and Sarah Guyot failed to land a charm in K2 500m.

We summarize the essentials of the night for you.

Handball: the Blues in the last four

It's a team that smacks of the medal.

Criticized for their performance before the Olympic tournament, the French climbed easily to the semi-finals in Tokyo after a landslide victory over Bahrain (42-28).

Already far ahead at the break (21-14), the Blues continued their domination over the surprise team of the competition in the second period.

Note the good performance of Kentin Mahé with nine goals.

In the semi-finals, the French team will face the winner of the quarter-final between Germany, which the Blues have already beaten in pools, and Egypt.

A victory and the French would sign a fourth consecutive Olympic final.

Silver medalist in Rio, the “Experts” want to recover their crown.

Rowing: no miracle for Hostens and Guyot

No medal in K2 500m for Manon Hostens and Sarah Guyot.

Engaged in the final on Tuesday, the French women were never involved and finished 7th in the race, more than three seconds from the podium.

Penalized by a very average start, the French drivers could not catch up and never did better than a 6th place at the halfway point.

Far ahead, New Zealand won by setting a new Olympic record in 1′5′'785.

It was the only final of the morning with French athletes engaged.

🚣🥇 After her coronation in single-seater, New Zealander Lisa Carrington won in tandem with her partner Caitlin Regal in 1: 35: 785, best Olympic performance.

The French Sarah Guyot and Manon Hostens are ranked 7th

The rest of the series in athletics

As always, happy and disappointed during the athletics heats.

In the triple jump, Melvin Raffin is the only Frenchman qualified for the final with a jump to 16.83 m, a worse mark for the finalists.

On the other hand, this does not happen for the 2014 European champion Benjamin Compaoré, author of an insufficient jump at 16.59 m, and for Jean-Marc Pontvianne who failed to validate any mark.

“There are no excuses to look for.

Three French in the final, that would have been nice, ”lamented Compaoré after qualifying.

👊 Qualified for the Olympic final!

🇫🇷 Melvin Raffin finished 11th in the triple jump qualifications with 16.83m (-0.8) and won his ticket to the final!

Mixed results also for the 1,500 m.

Azzedine Habz is also the only French to have validated his ticket for the semi-finals by finishing 4th in his series, in 3′41′'24.

Respectively 14th and 11th in their respective races, Alexis Miellet and Baptiste Mischler were very far from the score.

The good performance came from Amandine Brossier in the 400m.

For her first participation in the Olympic Games, the Frenchwoman finished second in her series in 51''65 and qualified directly for the semi-finals: “We will have to go even faster in the semi-finals, and that will undoubtedly go through the beating my record (51′'25).

I am relieved to have passed this first milestone.

We're going to let go of the horses!

The perf ': Warholm breaks the world record in the 400m hurdles

World record alert!

The best mark in the 400m hurdles fell on Tuesday in Tokyo.

The author of this superb performance could not be other than Karsten Warholm, already holder of the previous record a month ago at the beginning of July.

With a race finished in 45''94, the Norwegian athlete, of course, made a double blow by being crowned Olympic champion.

" It's crazy.

It's the greatest thing I've ever done, ”reacted Karsten Warholm, smiling, at the microphone of France TV.

The 2017 world champion had already dropped on July 1 in 46''70, Kevin Young's legendary record set at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. A month, almost to the day, later, the new Olympic champion has exploded his own mark by 76 hundredths, in 45′'94. Second, his great rival the American Rai Benjamin also finished in a better time than the old world record in 46''17. A historic finale.
