Today, attention is directed to Syria's last participation in the Tokyo Olympics, through weightlifter Maan Asaad, in the over 109 kg weightlifting competitions, along with thirteen world weightlifters.

A strong competition awaits our athletes. We are happier with the Georgian world record holder Lasha Talakhadze in the snatch 222 kg, the net 264 kg and the total 485 kg, the gold medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, in addition to the Iranian Ali Daoudi, the Asian champion in 2019 and 2020.

In a statement to SANA, Asaad said: “I trained within a well-thought-out plan in all respects with my coach, Qais Asaad, and the Sports Federation provided us with all the required food and supplements,” noting that the preparation for the Tokyo Olympics is much better than the preparation process before the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

President of the Game Federation Hassanein Al-Sheikh explained that the weightlifter is happiest in full readiness and will be among the top four and will compete strongly within the group “ie” if he is not affected by the injury to his shoulder that he suffered in the Asian Championship that took place last April, noting that the weightlifter Asaad trained well and was not There is no shortcoming towards him and he will spare no effort to achieve an Olympic achievement for Syrian sports.

Asaad participated in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 in the weight competitions over 105 kg and finished 15th with a record of 180 kg in the snatch, 220 kg in the net and 400 kg in total.

Asaad managed to achieve three silvers with a Syrian record of 433 kg, 195 snatches and 238 nits, last April in the Asian Championship in Uzbekistan, which added to his classification points that qualified him to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.

During his sporting career that spanned more than 10 years, Asaad won the Republic Championship in various categories and won first place in the first international participation at the age of 14 in the Asian Junior Championships that took place in Uzbekistan in 2009 and the Asian Championship in Kyrgyzstan in 2013 and won the gold of the World Challenge Cup in Switzerland in 2019 and ranked fifth in the world in Thailand 2019.
