Three years of effort and continuous training and six qualifying stations to reach one of the largest sports competitions in the world, translated today by Syrian weightlifter Maan Asaad, by winning the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Syrian weightlifter Maan Asaad was able to win the bronze medal in the weightlifting competition over 109 kg in the Olympic Games currently being held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo. It is the first medal for Syria in the Olympics since 2004.

In a statement to SANA, Asaad explained that getting a medal in the Olympics is the dream of all world athletes, and it has been achieved today thanks to the will, determination, effort, training and focus, pointing out that not counting the third attempt by the referees did not stand in his way, but rather increased his determination to make the achievement.

Asaad added that when the Syrian flag rose in the sky of Tokyo, he felt the value of victory, pride and pride, pointing out that he dedicates this achievement to the Syrian people, President Bashar al-Assad, and to the souls of the martyrs, especially his brother, the martyr Qassem Asaad, who is also the Asian champion in weightlifting.

Asaad revealed that he had suffered an injury in his right shoulder before going to Tokyo, and this was what worried him, but success was present to please the Syrian fans through the bronze medal in the Olympics.

The weightlifter Asaad won the bronze after he scored a total of 424 kg, the silver medal went to the Iranian player Ali Dawi with a total of 441 kg, and the Georgian Lasha Talakhadze won the gold with a total of 488 kg.

Asaad participated in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the over 105 kg weight category and finished 15th with a total of 400 kg.

During his sporting career that spanned more than 10 years, Asaad won the Republic Championship in various categories and won first place in the first international participation at the age of 14 in the Asian Junior Championships that took place in Uzbekistan in 2009 and the Asian Championship in Kyrgyzstan in 2013 and won the gold of the World Challenge Cup in Switzerland in 2019 and ranked fifth in the world in Thailand 2019.
