Rostock / Geretsried / Bad Tölz - There are quite a few good athletes in the district, but only two of them made it to the German Youth Championship of the U 18 and U 20 in Rostock: Xaver Seelos (TuS Geretsried) and Tobias Tent (LC Tölzer Land / Stadtwerke München) did very well in the stadium in the Hansaviertel.

Xaver Seelos struggles with wind and rhythm changes

The 16-year-old Xaver Seelos only completed his first race over the 400 meter hurdles in June. Completely surprisingly, the athlete from TuS Geretsried managed to qualify for the German championship in a time of 57.87 seconds. Accordingly, the talented athlete, who actually specializes in the high jump and the decathlon, went to the national championships in Rostock. At his first appearance at such a big event, the TuS athlete showed strong nerves and completed a strong run. In a time of 58.10 seconds, he came close to his previous best performance over the hurdles, although the weather in northern Germany was more of a harsh side. “It wasn't so easy to run in storms and rain. I had to change my rhythm on the back straight early on,because the headwind gave me some problems, ”explains Xaver Seelos.

I left a few competitors behind

Nevertheless, he is satisfied with his performance.

“Actually, I had hoped for a better time, but under these conditions I can be satisfied with the time.

I was registered with the slowest time, but I left a few competitors behind, ”he says happily.

Altogether there were even six athletes from the elite of the German U18 on this route who lagged behind Seelos, which is why a respectable 17th place jumped out.

For this season, the athlete, who has been able to greatly improve his previous best performances in practically every discipline, has already exceeded his target, whereby the participation represented a kind of reward for his performance.

“It was definitely a cool experience to be there,” said Seelos happily after his DM premiere.

Tobias Tent is eleventh in his parade discipline 3000 meters

The Tölz high school student Tobias Tent had a little bad luck in his parade discipline 3000 m, in which he finished eleventh. The high school student traveled to Rostock as the Bavarian hope in the 3000 m run of the male U 18 youth. In the run-up he made the qualifying performance with flying colors and easily undercut it in the jersey of the LG Stadtwerke München with 9: 00.80 minutes. Therefore, the 16-year-old also expected a chance in the field of the best eight athletes. In the field of 21 participants, however, the form of the day decided this time. Tobias Tent worked his way up in this very dense competition as usual and played along with the tactical strolls. In the end, his opponents presented themselves closely in terms of performance, and the ambitious athlete should have had a little more luck at his end time. With a strong 9:05,01 minutes he barely missed his personal record, which he had achieved a few weeks ago with a "speed bunny", his trainer Clemens Pencil stone. Even with his best time, he would only have placed himself marginally further up front - in ninth place. German champion was Jan Dillemuth from Hessian TV Assenheim (8: 50.42 min.) Ahead of Silas Zahlten (LG Brillux Münster, 8: 51.76 min.). Nevertheless, this eleventh place allows a positive outlook for the next year and at the same time confirms Tents membership in the national team of young runners: Tobias Tent was the second best athlete in his class in 2005.Even with his best time, he would only have placed himself marginally further up front - in ninth place. The two district cracks have the best chances of topping their placement next year, because both Tent and Seelos belong to the younger age group in 2005 and will also be able to compete in the U18s in the coming season.
