Spaniard Alberto Gines Lopez became the first Olympic climbing champion in history on Thursday, triumphing in a “combined” of three events stifling suspense for the discipline's debut at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Beating the odds, the 18-year-old climber won ahead of the American Nathaniel Coleman and the Austrian Jakob Schubert, while the French Mickaël Mawem, who came out ahead of qualifying on Tuesday, took 5th place.
