The penultimate day at the Olympics in Tokyo has dawned - and it has brought a gold medal for the German men's four-man kayak.
The canoeists missed another medal through Sebastian Brendel, who surprisingly failed in the semifinals.
However, other disciplines could provide for German gold medals later on Saturday.
That was important
The Olympic Games got off to a
bad
start for the German
men's kayak foursome
. A forklift in Luxembourg had damaged the team's boat so badly while it was being transported to Japan that it could no longer do justice to the Olympic waters of Tokyo. So a replacement boat was brought to Tokyo - and the team has now won
the gold medal in a close final against Spain
. For Ronald Rauhe, 39-year-old 16-time world champion, it was already the fifth Olympic medal of his career.
Sebastian Brendel
was the measure of all things in the
Canadier
for a long time
, in 2012 and 2016 the German won Olympic gold over the 1000 meters.
In Tokyo, Brendel
clearly
missed the final as the
penultimate in the semifinals
, after which the 33-year-old left his future open.
“I realized that I couldn't keep up with the best.
I wanted to show my family and everyone again that I fight, ”said Brendel.
“I hope I can do the sport a little more.
I don't know yet whether it will last until Paris 2024.
There is still a long way to go. "
The
Brazilian Isaquias Queiroz dos Santos
won gold in the single canoe
.
Because dos Santos named his son "Sebastian" after his great role model.
Early on Saturday morning, the marathon runner
Melat Kejeta
had already made the
German team
smile
. The 28-year-old ran
in sixth place
;
no German runner has been so strong in 25 years
. The
Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir
, who ran for gold in the heat of Sapporo, was
even stronger
. The organizers caused a controversy, who had unceremoniously postponed the start of the competition on Friday evening local time by an hour. At 6 o'clock the thermometer showed 30 degrees, some runners had to stop the race.
Gold medals were also distributed during the night: Hungary won the women's four-man kayak
, China won gold
in the
two-man canoe
and
the Norwegian men won beach volleyball
.
The
USA
won again in
basketball
.
That will be important
German gold was already there in the morning through the canoeists and German gold could also be available from
1 p.m.
in the athletics stadium:
Javelin thrower Johannes Vetter
is the top favorite in the Olympic final, although he only made it clear in the qualification in the last throw . Vetter has been undefeated for 18 competitions. Before that, there will be
the women's final over the
10,000 meters
from
12.45 p.m.
, with
Konstanze Klosterhalfen among them
.
There
could also be
a gold medal for Team Germany
from
9.55 a.m.
in the
Madison in the track
bike
.
Roger Kluge and his partner Theo Reinhardt
want to attack above, as they said before the competition. The preparation did not go optimally for Kluge, however, he was injured in a crash at the Tour de France, but can now start. As double world champions, Kluge and Reinhardt are favorites.
There is also a German medal in
karate
, in the Kumite discipline over 75 kilograms, the reigning world and European champion
Jonathan Horne
even
wants
to reach for gold
from
12.55 p.m.
And the German
show jumpers also
want precious metal, from
12 noon
the German riders will compete in the
team
final around world number one Daniel Deußer
.
There are also numerous other decisions on the penultimate day in Tokyo:
Brazil is the reigning Olympic champion in
football
- and could also become the new Olympic champion.
From
1.30 p.m.
the Seleção will play against Spain for Olympic gold in Yokohama.
In
handball
