SV Werder Bremen failed in the first round of the DFB Cup.

The second division lost the away game against third division VfL Osnabrück on Saturday with 0-2.

The game report of the DeichStube *.

Osnabrück - One game, competition over: Exactly what SV Werder Bremen absolutely wanted to avoid in the first round of the DFB Cup happened on Saturday afternoon. At the third division club VfL Osnabrück, the team of coach Markus Anfang lost after a weak first half despite an increase in performance after the break with 0: 2 (0: 1) - and retired. In front of the opposing goal, the Bremen team hadn't used even the best opportunities and repeatedly failed against the crossbar or post, so that the goals of Osnabrück's Maurice Trapp (44th) and Sven Köhler (90th + 5) were enough to surprise the outsider. The last time Werder finished so early in the DFB Cup was five years ago, in the 2016/17 season. Back then after a 1: 2 at SF Lotte, only about 20 minutes away from Osnabrück.

Compared to the 3-2 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Markus had to make two personal changes in his starting line-up. Because the changes from Josh Sargent (to Norwich City) and Yuya Osako (to Vissel Kobe) are imminent, the duo was no longer there in Osnabrück - which in the case of Sargent caused great resentment at Werder Bremen. Bremen had agreed with Norwich that the striker would play for the green and white one last time in the DFB Cup, but Sargent let this deal fall through. On Friday he announced at the beginning that he would no longer play for Werder. "The disappointment was already great," said Werder's head of professional football Clemens Fritz before the game: "We all had counted on Josh."

Eren Dinkci and ex-Osnabrücker Felix Agu joined the team for the American and Osako. They occupied the offensive wing positions. Romano Schmid moved back to eighth position at the beginning - to the side of Niklas Schmidt, who had played for VfL in the second division last year. Back at his old place of work, the 23-year-old experienced an extremely restless first half with Werder, in which the home side had significantly more from the game.

Although the first really big chance of the game after just 30 seconds belonged to the guests (Agu was too surprised after a Dinkci cross to get the ball on goal in a controlled manner), but after that it mostly went in the other direction. Osnabrück acted in front of 5300 spectators at the Bremer Brücke in a straight line on the way forward and worked out a playful overweight. Both center forward Felix Higl (8th) and central defender Lukas Gugganig (22nd) gave good opportunities. Higl, because he just missed from close range, Gugganig, because he hit the crossbar with his header. At the previous corner, Werder's goalkeeper Michael Zetterer didn't look good at all because the ball flew past.

And anyway: When the third division team made high crosses, the Bremen team kept getting into the water.

In the meantime, Dinkci had achieved a conclusion (19th), but overall Werder made far too little progress in the game, which was also evident from the statistics: After 25 minutes the corner ratio was 8: 1 for Osnabrück.

Shortly before the break it still looked as if Werder should gradually find their way into the game.

Marco Friedl (41st) and especially Dinkci (42nd) had the lead on their feet before there was a cold shower on the other side.

After a corner from Osnabrück (of course!), The ball finally landed at central defender Maurice Trapp, who headed to make it 1-0 (44th).

After changing sides, Niclas Füllkrug had a great opportunity to quickly equalize - twice. Each time after Schmidt flank, the 28-year-old headed the ball first to the crossbar and only seconds later past the goal (47th). Werder then (finally) had the game under control and pressed for equalization, but the necessary accuracy was lacking - as was the case with Dinkci, who failed because of Osnabrück's goalkeeper Philipp Kühn (65th). Shortly afterwards, coach beginning reacted, first sending home-grown Abdenego Nankishi (67th / for Agu) and then newcomer Nicolai Rapp (72th / for Schmid) onto the pitch. Not much was missing, and Joker Rapp could have cheered a few moments later: His header in the 74th minute hit the post (74th), while Kühn blocked his shot in the 77th minute in the near corner.

At least now, the compensation would have been absolutely deserved.

The problem: He didn't fall because the final offensive only brought in one more shot from the post by Rapp (90th + 1).

The third competitive debut of the day - Oscar Schönfelder came in the 87th minute for Dinkci - could no longer ensure the turnaround.

The bitter end point from Bremen's point of view was set by Sven Köhler, who scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time from his own half (!) To make it 2-0.

In other words: The gentle euphoria that had spread at Werder after the 3-2 win in the 2nd division against Fortuna Düsseldorf - it evaporated again directly at the Bremer Brücke.

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against VfL Osnabrück: All goals, news and information about the 1st round in the DFB-Pokal - today everything live in the live ticker of the DeichStube *!

Final score: 2-0 for Osnabrück

Final whistle!

VfL Osnabrück beat Werder Bremen 2-0 in the first round of the DFB Cup.

A little bit of bad luck and a lot of inability to make the first round off since 2016. A weak initial phase, effective Osnabrück and triple aluminum bad luck cause Bremen frustration and Osnabrück jubilation orgies.

90th min + 5:

That's it!

Zetterer with the front.

Sven Köhler takes heart and pulls just before the center line and comes to the decision, almost in Diego-style!

2-0 for VfL.

Wahnsinnstor and huge cheers at the Bremer Brücke.

90th min + 5th

Goal for VfL Osnabrück!

The decision!

90th min + 3:

Zetterer already with the front.

But the corner is safe ... like so much in this Bremen game.

90th Min + 2:

Two minutes of the five-minute stoppage time have already expired.

Can Werder still save themselves in extra time?

Corner for Werder!

90. Min + 1: That doesn't exist!

Rapp heads to the post again!

The third time aluminum!

90.Min:

The regular time has expired.

For about a minute, someone from Osnabrück has been writhing on the ground.

We are eagerly awaiting stoppage time.

89.Min

:

Opening pass from Eggestein to Nankishi, who is standing free on the left.

The youngster leaves two defensive legs and then pulls from twenty meters.

Over the gate.

Soon it will be over and there is little evidence of an equalizer.

87th Min:

The absolute will, the absolute final offensive has not yet occurred.

Standards are also useless.

86.Min:

Oscar Schönfelder also makes his professional debut.

Dinkci goes down.

84.Min

:

Dinkci first loses the ball and then pulls on his opponent's jersey.

Yellow again.

82.Min:

VfL corner number twelve and yellow for Zetterer because of complaining.

The Bremen goalkeeper's excitement is justified, as the ball had already been accepted by Osnabrück in goal.

80th Min:

Where is the player who is going ahead here?

Maxi Eggestein, Ömer Toprak, anyone who takes over the reins of the business.

79.Min:

The Osnabrückers have partly exhausted themselves a lot.

The first cramps are treated.

Werder Bremen against VfL Osnabrück in the live ticker - Nicolai Rapp brings new momentum

77.Min:

Again Rapp comes to the end, but Kühn closes the corner!

Guys, it's time!

76.Min:

The Bremen team still has a quarter of an hour to save themselves at least first in overtime.

The Osnabrück fans continue to cheer on their team.

74th Min:

Rapp!

The joker almost stings directly.

Schmidt's cross comes perfectly into the penalty area, where Mai and Rapp are lurking ready to head.

Again only centimeters are missing.

72nd min:

At least the beginning now tries with a new impulse.

Rapp, who came from Darmstadt before the season, comes into play.

The pale Romano Schmid goes out.

71.Min:

Bertram comes for Simakala.

The VfL coach can add more than the second division - sad.

69.Min:

Werder reveals a few gaps in the back due to the offensive efforts (that's all!).

Osnabrück places the ball 17 meters in front of the goal after a foul.

The ball goes over it after a man from Bremen deflects.

Another corner of the hosts follows.

67th Min:

Nankishi actually comes into the game.

Felix Agu leaves the field and enables the 19-year-old German to make his professional debut.

Shortly before, VfL had already brought Köhler for Klaas.

65th Min:

Strong cross on the second post from Schmid.

There Dinkci arrives, who withdraws directly, but finds his master again in Kühn.

A balance is not exactly in the air, but would not be undeserved after Osnabrück's inactivity in half two.

63.Min

:

What more could Werder add?

Some defensive players like Groß and Veljkovic can be found on the bench.

It looks poor further ahead.

Nick Woltemade and young striker Abedenego Nankishi could turn things around here.

61.Min:

Is that already possible with Werder's offensive power?

There is clearly too little from the first division relegated here.

Although there is not much left from Osanbrück, the current result naturally plays into the cards for the home side.

57.Min:

Niclas Füllkrug unhappy again, relatively unrestricted, he comes from around 10 meters to the header, but over again.

The facial expression of the goal scorer speaks volumes.

54.Min:

Toprak blocks the ball after Ittrich rightly decides on VfL's free kick.

Due to the delay in the game, the yellow card is appropriate according to the regulations.

52nd min:

And again Dinkcis inexperience makes itself felt.

Once again, he gets stuck in the Osnabrück defense without lifting his head.

After all, he tries to radiate danger.

On the other hand, almost nothing comes from Romano Schmid.

49.Min:

Werder wakes up from the break!

A quick goal would calm the Bremen fan base a little.

47th Min: Double chance filling jug!

Niklas Schmidt had always flanked in the middle, but once a crossbar, once past the goal!

Abundance is simply not in shape, he had so much time when he headed down, it had to be 1: 1!

46th Min:

Let's go on!

Sterning changes once.

Haas comes for Kleinhansl.

Position-based change.

Markus beginning doesn't bring any new impulses at first.

Halftime!

Werder Bremen go into the break with a deficit that is not necessarily undeserved

.

A class difference could not be seen here at any time, so that one of the many standards led to the lead shortly before the half-time whistle.

A lot more has to come from Werder.

So far no creativity can be seen.

Werder Bremen against VfL Osnabrück in the live ticker - Osnabrück's ninth corner leads to the goal

44.Min:

And there is the hit on the other side!

The ninth Osnabrück corner comes nicely on the first post where Kleinhansel extends.

Trapp only has to push in at the second post.

Füllkrug and Dinkci have to fend off the first ball!

44th Min: Goal for VfL Osnabrück!

0: 1 from Bremen's point of view!

42nd Min:

Again Werder, who apparently wants to make 1-0 here before half-time.

However, Dinkci cannot put a nice combination of Schmidt and Schmid in the goal.

Somebody just has to do one!

41.Min:

Intentional handball by full-back Kleinhansl.

Free kick for Werder from a promising position.

And Friedl's ball is hit very hot on the second post.

Kühn can fend off.

39.Min:

The match has lost some of its momentum and is now mainly played in midfield.

36.Min

:

Eren Dinkci looks very hard here.

His flanks are not really arriving yet, but you can tell that the 19-year-old wants to come to the fore after all the offensive exits.

33.Min:

After the urge phase of Daniel Scherning's team, Werder has now caught himself again and is trying to control what is happening.

As is so often the case, there is still a lack of offensive ideas.

30.Min:

Now an uncertainty from Kühn, who does the same as his opponent Zetterer and infiltrates a Bremen free-kick flank.

The result is the third corner of Bremen, which in turn does not lead to the hoped-for success.

28.Min:

On the opposite side, two Bremen corners do not lead to a noteworthy goal opportunity.

Filling jug is still not a factor at all.

25.Min:

The game shares are now gradually moving to the Osnabrückers.

After less than half an hour, the home team can already book eight (!) Corners, almost all of which have become dangerous.

More has to come from Werder now.

Werder Bremen against VfL Osnabrück in the live ticker - Latte after Michael Zetterer's uncertainty

22.Min:

Latte!

After a corner of the lilalen, the Bremen keeper sails past the ball.

Higl lurks behind him and heads on the crossbar.

Afterwards it becomes more dangerous.

Osnabrück, however, is still too imprecise.

19.Min:

The direct counterattack leads to the first yellow card.

Niklas Schmidt mows a man from Osnabrück.

Rightly the yellow box.

19.Min:

Strong attack from Bremen.

Eggestein marches with several attackers towards Philipp Kühn's gate.

Dinkci is played freely and pulls away, but the VfL goalkeeper is there with a foot defense.

17.Min:

Nice cross from the just fouled in the middle towards Felix Agu., Who cannot accept the play equipment.

15.Min:

Hospitality for the old colleague looks different.

Niklas Schmidt is rudely placed in midfield.

Ittrich leaves it at a warning.

12.Min:

The game is absolutely even in the first few minutes.

Werder are a bit better in terms of play, Osnabrück makes up for this with a fight.

There were already great opportunities through Agu (1st) and Higl (8th) on both sides.

8.Min:

The first opportunity for VfL out of the game.

Higl gets the ball played in the backcourt.

The striker has to stretch and puts the ball next to the goal.

The people of Osnabrück look dangerous and snappy.

5. Min:

Three Osnabrück corners after five minutes.

The second would have been more of a kick, but that's not a problem, since Eggestein first and then the gate saves.

Werder Bremen against VfL Osnabrück in the live ticker - great opportunity right after kick-off

1. Min:

And the huge chance for Werder!

Eren Dinci comes to a conclusion from the right, goalkeeper Kühn has to let go.

The surprised Agu only has to push in, but only hits the ball with his thigh.

That would have been a start to our liking.

1. Min:

kick-off at the Bremen bridge!

Werder in green and white, Osnabrück in purple.

3:29 p.m.:

While the two teams are waiting in the players'

tunnel

to march onto the lawn, the Osna fans whip their men forward!

Nice to see fans in the stadium again.

Today there are around 4,800.

3:28 p.m.:

The game's referee is Patrick Ittrich from Hamburg.

Good man.

3:20 p.m.:

About ten minutes until kick-off.

A win would of course also be important from a financial point of view.

Just for reaching the 2nd round there is a transfer of 351,000 euros.

3:13 p.m.:

The Werderaner should be warned.

Osnabrück has often proven its fighting qualities, especially in the cup.

The last Bremen first round off dates from August 2016. Against Sportfreunde Lotte, it was a 2-1 defeat.

Incidentally, there are only around 20 minutes on the A30 between the stadiums in Osnabrück and Lotte.

3:07 p.m .:

A pro pos Osnabrück.

After a strong first two-tier year one now had to take the bitter step into the third division.

New coach Daniel Scherning is sure to have his sights set on direct promotion.

The start of the new season has already been successful with a 2-1 win in Saarbrücken.

3:02 p.m.:

Felix Agu and Niklas Schmidt will probably stay with Werder.

By the way, both have an Osnabrück past and have just been officially adopted by VfL again.

Above all, Agu was a crowd favorite at Bremer Brücke and has been celebrated again and again with chants even today.

2:58 p.m.:

After all, the defense is almost completely fit.

Even Milos Veljkovic is back in the squad for the first time after surviving the corona infection.

In about three weeks you will know whether top people like Ömer Toprak will stay with Werder or whether they will (have to) be turned into money.

2:53 p.m.:

In general, Werder fans ask themselves who should actually score the goals for Bremen.

Füllkrug looks out of shape, the remaining offensive forces have been sold.

Clemens Fritz cannot promise whether enforcement with new goal-threatening players can be reported in the next week.

Complicated times on the Weser!

2.49 p.m.:

In the Sky interview you could just hear Clemens Fritz's frustration with. of not using Josh Sargent. It was actually agreed with Norwich City that the American would play for Werder one last time today, but the player had other plans and “asked not to play”. Questionable in character, a clear weakening in quality.

2.44 p.m.:

Werder have to do without Jiri Pavlenka, Kevin Möhwald and Leonardo Bittencourt today.

All three are still struggling with minor injuries.

Augustinsson, Osako, Sargent and Johannes Eggestein are again not in the squad because they have either already moved (J. Eggestein to Antwerp) or shortly before that.

In the case of

Osako

(Vissel Kobe) and

Sargent

(Norwich City), final execution should be reported soon.

2.39 p.m.:

The third division team from Osnabrück relies on these eleven men: Kühn, Kleinhansl, Guggaing, Taffertshofer, Simakala, Kunze, Higl, Trapp, Heider.

Traore and Klaas.

Left outside Marc Heider has a Werder past.

Between 2006 and 2009, the 35-year-old veteran played for a while in the second team of the green-whites.

2.36 p.m.: So the

beginning is only building on one new addition for the time being.

Lars Lukas Mai is

allowed to run alongside captain Ömer Toprak in the back four.

Anthony Jung and Nicolai Rapp have apparently not yet completely convinced the coach and are taking their place on the bench for the time being.

2.34 p.m.:

The following actors are waiting for their action at the Bremer Bank: Dos Santos Haesler, Jung, Veljkovic, Schönfelder, Nankishi, Rapp, Gruev, Woltemade, Groß

Werder Bremen against VfL Osnabrück in the live ticker - Felix Agu and Eren Dinkci start in the DFB Cup

2.32 p.m.:

In comparison to the breathtaking 3: 2 against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Markus at the beginning changes twice.

Sargent and Osako, who are willing to emigrate, are replaced by Agu and Dinkci.

2.30 p.m.: And here the formation of Bremen: Zetterer - Friedl, Toprak, Mai, Mbom - Eggestein, Schmid, Schmidt, Dinkci, Agu, Füllkrug

2.20 p.m.:

Moin, moin from the Bremer Brücker, where SV Werder Bremen will play against VfL Osnabrück in the first round of the DFB Cup today.

The kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. and the lineups will start right away!

To the preliminary report of August 6, 2021:

The Brocken from the Bremer Brücke: Werder Bremen coach Markus Anfang expects a difficult DFB Cup game at VfL Osnabrück

The last time that

SV Werder Bremen

and

VfL Osnabrück met

in a competitive match was in the 1980/81 season. It was the 26th matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga North and the game clearly went to the guests from the Hanseatic city. 4: 1 the final score in the stadium at the Bremer Brücke. The Osnabrückers now have the chance to take revenge. The venue is the

Bremen

- Of course he didn't forget that day. How should he? After all, Markus was never closer to a title in German professional football than on May 31, 2003. At that time, today's

SV Werder Bremen

coach was

an active professional with 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the DFB Cup final against Bayern. "Unfortunately, the game was over for us very quickly," says Anfang, who was behind with 1. FCK after just ten minutes with 0: 2 and in the end lost with 1: 3. The experience “Cup final in Berlin” was nevertheless something very special, emphasizes Anfang, who, like his current employer, attaches great importance to the competition. No wonder that for the 47-year-olds in tomorrow's first round match at third division

VfL Osnabrueck

with

For Werder Bremen

only one thing counts: getting ahead!

"We really want to get through the round, and that's how we will perform," announced Anfang, who knows, however, that the Bremer Brücke is a place where

many favorites have stumbled

in the

DFB Cup

.

"A real chunk awaits us, because everyone who has played in Osnabrück knows what can be going on there," says Anfang.

As a coach, he was unable to win with either Kiel or Darmstadt at the Bremer Brücke.

Werder Bremen want to continue the trend from the start of the season in the DFB Cup game against VfL Osnabrück
