The Brest game plan
Sometimes the simplest recipes are the most effective, and Michel der Zakarian, for his first official match on the Brest bench, proved it again.
With a compact block led by a quartet Honorat, Mounié, Faivre and Cardona all as accomplices as they are complementary on the ground, the Brestois knew how to make the round back by placing some accelerations which destabilized the block of Lyon placed very high, to the image of Cardona's goal (43rd).
Even as the Breton ship pitched, the
Ty'Zefs
kept pushing and might even have won if a good Anthony Lopes hadn't been out.

The changes in Lyon
How can we not mention the excellent comeback of Lucas Paqueta and Islam Slimani on the hour mark? It's rare to see a team so transformed by changes. While Lyon with difficulty cashed the waves of Brest, the Brazilian made an entry into the lineage of his very good Copa America by providing a verticality and a quality of passes that were lacking in Lyon until then. Beyond his saving goal a few minutes after his entry (64th), Slimani proved that he was the striker in form on the Lyon side by creating as many opportunities in 20 minutes (64th, 70th, 75th) as Dembélé throughout the meeting.
Anthony Lopes already decisive
While his new coach Peter Bosz had made Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana his priority, before the latter declined the interest of OL, Anthony Lopes showed that he was indeed the number 1 goalkeeper in Lyon .
Perhaps motivated by the desire to demonstrate his value to his coach, the Portuguese international goalkeeper has multiplied the parades of large classes to avoid sinking completely in the second half.
We also saw him haranguing the crowd of 30,000 supporters present at Groupama Stadium who also signed their return to the stadium.
FLOPS
Lyonnais too rough
Was it due to too intense preparation, the lack of defensive serenity with several absent or a lack of understanding of Bosz's game plan? Anyway, the Lyonnais seemed a little lost for an hour on the pitch. Between hazardous placements, off-timed transmissions and dangerous ball losses, the Gones did not really reassure for the first of the OL version Peter Bosz. Admittedly the Dutch technician seems to have demanding playing principles to put in place but be careful not to delay too much at the start of this Ligue 1 season with already two points lost for Lyon.
The Lyon midfielder
Supposed to be an extremely complementary trio, Thiago Mendes, Maxence Caqueret and Houssem Aouar rather delivered a (bad) score of soloists, each in their own corner. If Thiago Mendes is supposed to bring his defense and his passing quality, he was simply eaten by M'Bock and Magnetti in the middle, weighing very little on the game. Caqueret ran a lot but did not always make the right moves because of a lack of lucidity especially at the very end of the match where he transmitted too late to Toko-Ekambi. As for Aouar, even if he was more successful than the others, he tried a lot to make a difference on his own while M'Bock did not let go of a sole. Paqueta's successful entry was even more glaring on thelevel gap within the OL environment.
