The Bundesliga soccer club VfL Wolfsburg is threatened with the subsequent loss of the DFB Cup after a mistake by the new coach Mark van Bommel.
In the 3-1 after extra time at the regional league team Preußen Münster, van Bommel made three more changes in extra time after three changes in regular time.
However, the statutes of the German Football Association (DFB) do not allow this.
The implementation regulations of the DFB state that “five substitutions are possible in the coming DFB Cup season” and paragraph 31, point 3a continues as follows: “During the game, five players may be exchanged.
An additional substitution going beyond this in games with overtime is not permitted. «At the European Football Championship, on the other hand, a sixth change in overtime was possible.
The "kicker" reports that the Wolfsburg-based company asked the fourth official several times whether a further change was allowed.
Van Bommel said loudly "Bild": "I talked to the referee about it." Referee Christian Dingert noted the substitution error in the match report.
Münster examines protest
Münster can now protest against the rating of the game.
“Yes, we are aware that Wolfsburg has made six changes.
We will discuss this internally and decide whether and how to counteract it, «said manager Peter Niemeyer.
Initially, nobody from those responsible in Wolfsburg wanted to comment after the encounter.
Wolfsburg had averted the sporting end in extra time.
Central defender Marcel Hoffmeier scored the surprising lead for Münster after a corner (74th).
Josip Brekalo only equalized for Wolfsburg in the 90th minute.
Goalscorer Wout Weghorst (103rd) and Ridle Baku (120th + 1) scored in extra time to win for the guests, who were disappointing for a long time.
