Third in the Styrian Grand Prix, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo left his main opponents behind for the title. Spaniard Jorge Martin

We have come to a point in the season when Fabio Quartararo can be satisfied with no longer winning.

Arrived in Styria (Austria), for the 10th of the 18 rounds of the championship, with 34 points ahead of Johann Zarco and 47 over Francesco Bagnaia, the little prince of the Moto GP aimed to finish ahead of his main competitors.

Mission accomplished for the Niçois, 3rd in Spielberg, far ahead of Zarco (6th) and Bagnaia (11th).

In management, the Yamaha rider was able to stay focused despite the racing events.

We think in particular of the red flag deployed in the second round after a big accident (not serious) involving Dani Perdrosa and Lorenzo Salvadori.

The flames, finally extinguished after having covered the entire width of the track, gave way to a second start.

Starting 3rd, the Frenchman defended his good until the end, and even pushed Jack Miller (then 5th in the championship with 56 points behind) to make a mistake 10 laps from the finish.

Jorge Martin and Ducati Pramac, first!

An accounting operation all the more masterful for Quartararo as his teammate Maverick Viñales (61 points behind), unable to start his machine on the second start, finished in 19th and last position.

The only favorite to hold his place is Joan Mir.

The reigning world champion placed his Suzuki in 2nd place, and took 4 points from the Frenchman.

In the general classification, Quartararo has 172 units, and a chasm ahead of Zarco (132), Mir (121) and Bagnaia (116).

France has never been so close to finding its first world champion.

In the meantime, the day of glory was well this Sunday for Jorge Martin. Starting from pole position, the 23-year-old Spaniard resisted the pressure from Mir from start to finish, and signed his first success in the premier class, in his first season. The rookie, teammate of Johann Zarco, thus offered Ducati Pramac (Ducati satellite team) his very first victory, 19 years after the team's appearance in Moto GP. But Martin won't be a title contender due to a serious injury early in the season.
