There are still a few questions unanswered about his future team, but national coach Hansi Flick has now completed his own team: Andreas Kronenberg from SC Freiburg will take over from Andreas Köpke as goalkeeping coach for the German national soccer team.

The Dane Mads Buttgereit comes as an external expert and special trainer, especially for corners and free kicks.

"Andreas Kronenberg is an absolute expert, whose school at SC Freiburg has gone through excellent Bundesliga goalkeepers such as Oliver Baumann, Roman Bürki, Rafal Gikiewicz, Alexander Schwolow, Mark Flekken and Florian Müller in ten years," said Flick.

Standard expert Buttgereit will "advance the DFB selection with his special skills".

With this, according to Flick, his team is "now complete with a view to the major tasks and goals ahead."

It is therefore also clear that Hermann Gerland will not join the DFB after his time at FC Bayern.

Sorg stays, Röhl's second assistant coach

Flick had previously brought Danny Röhl on as the second assistant coach alongside Marcus Sorg.

In addition, Rio World Champion Benedikt Höwedes strengthens the team management of the national team.

The Swiss Kronenberg, 46, will continue to work as goalkeeping coach for SC Freiburg for one season parallel to his commitment to the DFB.

He signed until 2024. At the DFB there is “a lot in motion, and I want to get involved in the development of the goalkeeping game.

I know that I'm following in big footsteps, ”said Kronenberg.

The 36-year-old Buttgereit worked as a trainer for set pieces at the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland and most recently was assistant coach of the Danish U18s.

Football teams employing standards specialists is nothing new.

The Dane Thomas Grønnemark worked for example for Liverpool FC.

For the DFB team, dormant balls were not one of the strengths of the Löw era.

Flick took up his post as successor to Joachim Löw on August 1st.

At the beginning of September his debut games in the World Cup qualification against Liechtenstein, Armenia and Iceland are due.
