After the mistake made by VfL Wolfsburg, the regional soccer division SC Preußen Münster has, as expected, appealed against the valuation of the DFB Cup game on Sunday.

»We stood up to a highly favored Champions League participant in a thrilling and passionate cup game and, with the support of our fans, forced VfL Wolfsburg into extra time. With the inadmissible change, our guest then decisively influenced the game to our disadvantage. Now we have a responsibility to those who support and remain loyal to this club, which, like many others, is facing major economic challenges, «said Münster's sports director Peter Niemeyer.

The Champions League participant from Wolfsburg is now threatened with a subsequent end at the Green Table despite the 3-1 win after extra time.

VfL coach Mark van Bommel had substituted a total of six players, the last time Admir Mehmedi came into play for Maximilian Philipp in the 113th minute.

In contrast to the European Championship or the Olympic Games, only five changes are allowed in DFB Cup games, even with extra time.

The control committee of the German Football Association will now ask VfL for a statement.

Schmadtke acknowledges Wolfsburg guilt

On Monday, VfL sports director Jörg Schmadtke admitted the mistake and took the blame on his club.

»VfL Wolfsburg made a mistake during the cup game at Preußen Münster.

This is extremely annoying, but unfortunately it cannot be reversed.

We'll analyze the issue internally and make sure that something like this doesn't happen in the future, ”he said.

The final decision now lies with the sports court of the German Football Association.

Should the Wolfsburg victory be denied and Münster subsequently move into the second round of the cup, the fourth division team will receive a six-figure income.
