Freising
- The student team of the Freising Grizzlies qualified first for the final of the Bavarian championship this season with a strong record (ten wins, two defeats).
The opponents in Attaching were the Guggenberg legionaries from Regensburg.
During the season, the Grizzlies and the Legionnaires were able to win two games in a direct comparison, so the decision about the championship title should be an exciting matter. The championship was decided in a best-of-three series, so you had to win two games to get the title. The coaches Georg Thalhammer and Armin Hegen had made an excellent contribution to their young team, everyone was highly motivated and ready for the day. The dugout cheered loudly throughout the day. In game one, Regensburg started with the strongest pitcher on the mound, who sent the first three grizzlies straight back into the dug-out. They caught up with Cooper Hegen as pitcher and Johannes Ströll behind the plate, the game went 10: 3 to the Grizzlies.
After a short break, game two started. The legionnaires had to win to have a chance at the title. The Grizzlies entered the game with a slightly different line-up. Thomas Hopfensperger on the mound, Korbinian Lohmaier as catcher, Lukas Gattermeyer still on 1B, Vincent Schertel on 2B, Cooper Hegen on SS, Johannes Ströll on 3B and Gregor Pagany, Rosalie Acbas and Maksim Seifert shared the tasks in the outfield. After the second inning, the guests led 4-0, but the Grizzlies did not allow themselves to be confused. The newly substituted pitcher from Regensburg struggled a little with control, and Freising used this with three hits for Cooper Hegen, Thomas Hopfensperger and Korbinian Lohmaier and many walks and steals to a total of seven runs.In the fourth inning, Johannes Ströll took on the task of closing the mound. The inning started with a strikeout, a long shot into the leftfield was able to stop the new substitute Kilian Sulilatu in the leftfield in time, so that the runner could be kept at 1B. The last off Tizian Sulilatu dealt spectacularly with a flyball in the rightfield.
Looking up, the Grizzlies wanted to score again, Cooper Hegen opened with a base hit, Johannes Ströll brought him home to 8: 4. The fifth inning was the last chance for Regensburg. But the hour of the Grizzlies closer came. Johannes Ströll. He sent the first two hitters straight back into the dugout with strikeouts. The third batsman came on base, but then another strikeout followed: The Grizzlies had won the second game 8: 4 and were crowned Bavarian champions. Now the cheers in Attaching were boundless.
The breadth of the squad and the tactical considerations of the coaches, in addition to the great motivation of the children, made all the difference.
The young team, for which some players are even allowed to play coach pitch, represents the Bavarian colors at the German championship in Mainz on 18/19.
