Lukaku
returns to Chelsea
Timo Werner faces strong competition in the attack at Chelsea.
Belgium international Romelu Lukaku returns to the blues after eight years.
The 28-year-old striker signed a five-year contract with the Champions League and Supercup winners until the summer of 2026. This was announced by coach Thomas Tuchel's team on Thursday evening.
Lukaku comes from the Italian champions Inter Milan.
He had already completed a medical check in Milan at the beginning of the week and cleared the final formalities in London on Thursday.
Chelsea are paying Inter to receive £ 97.5million (around € 115million), according to consistent reports in British media.
This makes Lukaku the most expensive player in the history of the London club and replaces Kai Havertz's previous record transfer.
The German international was signed in 2020 for 75.8 million pounds (about 90 million euros).
Lukaku had already been under contract with Chelsea from 2011 to 2013, but at that time, also due to a loan, only ten games for the club.

Inter Milan bring Dutchman Dumfries
Inter invested the income from the Lukaku transfer in part in the Dutch international Denzel Dumfries from PSV Eindhoven.
According to Italian media reports, the Lombards agreed on a five-year contract with the right-back.
Dumfries, who had arrived in Milan on Thursday evening for the medical checks, is to collect 12.5 million euros plus 2.5 million euros in bonuses, reported the "Gazzetta dello Sport".
The 25-year-old will replace former Bundesliga professional Achraf Hakimi at Inter, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain for around 65 million euros.
Dumfries had caused a stir at the EM.
With his assault runs, he was one of the most dangerous wingers in the tournament.
He scored two goals himself and prepared one.
