Now he also puts the balls on: Erling Haaland showed against Eintracht Frankfurt that he is as important for the Bundesliga as it is for his BVB. Marco Reus also shone - and celebrated a goal anniversary.

The attraction of the game:

Erling Haaland is under contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2024.

The fact that the most spectacular young striker in the world next to Kylian Mbappé will meet this is considered to be out of the question.

Very likely this season will be the last of the Norwegian in black and yellow.

It is important to enjoy them - because Haaland has outgrown BVB in terms of sport, yes: the Bundesliga already today.

The way in which the still only 21-year-old colossus plowed across the lawn, left opponents standing, hit twice and produced two or three hits, was a real spectacle.

The result:

Borussia Dortmund prevailed 5: 2 (3: 1) in the first league game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Coach, change yourself:

The first Saturday night game of the season was also the duel between coaches Marco Rose and Oliver Glasner. Just a few months ago that would have meant that Borussia Mönchengladbach would have faced VfL Wolfsburg. But now almost every top Bundesliga club had changed their coach before the season started, and new ideas could be tried out in the Pott as well as on the Main. It was eagerly awaited whose handwriting could already be read from his team's game.

The first half:

In fact, the Dortmund Umschaltspiel particularly reminded of the best moments of Rose football known from Gladbach: the swarming of the offensive, the fast direct game, the courageous balls in the depths. One duo in particular shone: Haaland carried the ball in front of Marco Reus' opening goal, the captain's 100th for BVB, with great strides through midfield. In the second Haaland assist for Thorgan Hazard, it was a Reus' heel pass that conjured up the danger. Haaland then made the third goal himself - after Reus had extended a tee shot by Gregor Kobel with his head.

Luck in misfortune:

BVB almost should have celebrated a strange fourth goal before the break. Kevin Trapp had tried to catch a ricochet of his defense in front of the goal line and keep it in the game. The problem: Trapps clarification campaign landed on the foot of Reus, who put the ball in the far corner - and then was not allowed to cheer for long because the video evidence showed that the ball was already out when Trapp's involuntary presentation.

Defensive emergency:

Instead, the game had not yet been decided at the break. Felix Passlack had hit his own goal, and that with a remarkably well-placed shot, which was supposed to only steal the ball from Eintracht striker Rafael Borré. The fact that Passlack played at all was due to an extreme situation in the Dortmund defense: The regular right-backs Mateu Morey and Thomas Meunier were injured as well as four (!) Other defensive defenses with starting ambitions, so that even sixth Axel Witsel slipped into the back four.

The second half:

After the break, BVB played its advantages even more clearly, once again the focus was on Haaland, who was always lurking on the sideline: First he was involved before Giovanni Reynas scored (58th), then he refined with a perfect one timed run behind the defensive chain a Reus steep pass (70th). And on the hunt for the next hit, he denied Rose's constant inquiries as to whether he would not want to leave the field to protect himself. The last goal of the day was due to another Norwegian: Frankfurt's offensive joker Jens Petter Hauge made cosmetic results after a corner (86th).

Adlerlass:

And Frankfurt? In addition to the defensive overstrain - defensive players like Martin Hinteregger and Stefan Ilsanker simply lacked the speed - the harmony was also noticeable in the absence of a forward striker. André Silva has moved to RB Leipzig, Luka Jović back at Real Madrid. So far, there have been options for the top (Borré) or the positions behind (Hauge, Jesper Lindström). Eintracht intends to add a target player for the very front. If that succeeds, it can be a respectable season.

German English Week:

How happy the Dortmunders will be in their season with their team's game should depend primarily on whether performances such as against Frankfurt are also played against opponents that are a category above Eintracht. The first acid test is on Tuesday: Then the cup winner will play against champions Bayern Munich for the DFL Supercup (8.30 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de; TV: Sat1 / Sky).
