Runner-up Manchester United won their first league game in the 2021/2022 Premier League season.

The team of coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær won against Leeds United 5-1 (1-0).

The goals for Manchester were scored by Bruno Fernandes (31st, 54th and 60th minutes), Mason Greenwood (52nd) and Fred (68th), Luke Ayling had equalized in the meantime (48th).

For the entire first half, the hosts, where BVB access Jadon Sancho initially only sat on the bench, were the dominant team.

It took half an hour to make it 1-0: Paul Pogba passed a ball wonderfully directly to Fernandes, who safely converted.

The equalizer for Leeds, which started with the German international Robin Koch in the unfamiliar six position, fell through a long-range shot by Ayling, which hit the corner (48th).

The answer again had Pogba: Greenwood found his pass from his own half, who asserted himself in the running duel and placed the ball from the left position in the far corner (52.).

Fernandes made the preliminary decision less than 120 seconds later (54th).

Preliminary work?

Pogba!

Fernandes made the first hat trick of the early Premier League season perfect: 4-1 after 60 minutes.

Fred increased - after the fourth assist from Poga - to 5: 1 (68), before Sancho made his debut in the 75th minute.

Varane commitment now official

Before the game, Manchester United had officially announced the signing of Real Madrid defender Raphaël Varane.

The 28-year-old will receive a contract until June 30, 2025. At the end of July, both clubs had already agreed to transfer the defender, who was presented to the fans at the sold-out Old Trafford stadium before kick-off.

According to media reports, the transfer fee for the French world champion should be 50 million euros plus bonus payments.

After Sancho, who came from Borussia Dortmund for 85 million euros, Varane is the second top entry at Manchester United.

Varane moved to Madrid from his French home club RC Lens in the summer of 2011.

He won the Champions League and three championships four times with Real.
