It is finally in Roubaix that the 111th edition of the World Track Cycling Championships will be held from October 20 to 24.

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) confirmed this morning that the World Track Cycling Championships will be relocated to the Vélodrome de Roubaix, from October 20 to 24.

Initially, the organizers designated Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, as the host country.

But at the beginning of June, the latter preferred to give up hosting the competition on its territory because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A few weeks after the return of the traditional Paris-Roubaix which will take place on October 3, 2021, this meeting will be an opportunity to see the Olympic medalists get back in the saddle.

As a reminder, several French people had made the discipline shine in Tokyo like Donovan Grondin and Benjamin Thomas, who came third on the podium in the Madisson event.

Same medal color for the trio Sébastien Vigier, Florent Grengbo and Rayan Helal in the team sprint race.

“Three years from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, France is more than ever a land of cycling.

Before the next Games, France will host another meeting, the UCI Track Champions League, this time a little closer to the capital, at the Saint Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome.

The Roubaix World Championships will also be decisive for the qualifications for this brand new competition which offers runners a format where each round presents the same race program.

This will fall just after Roubaix, in November 2021 and will see the light of day for the very first time.
