Robert Lewandowski scored a double to lead Bayern Munich to a 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund and win the German Super Cup today, to continue his brilliance after scoring 41 goals in the league last season.

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer saved two dangerous chances from Marco Reus and Erling Haaland before Lewandowski scored when he met a cross from Serge Gnabry with a powerful header into the net in the 41st minute.

Lewandowski, who scored 41 goals last season, broke the record of Gerd Muller, who died last Sunday at the age of 75, after holding his record for 49 years.

Thomas Muller added the second goal four minutes after the break, after a cross from Alphonso Davies from the left side turned Lewandowski with his heel to Muller, who followed it into the goal from close range.

The referee canceled Haaland's goal for offside in the 53rd minute, before Royce managed to reduce the difference in the 64th minute with a superb shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Dortmund's hopes of returning to the match faded after Lewandowski took advantage of a mistake by defender Manuel Akanji to fire a ground shot into the goal from close range and make the score 3-1 for the Bavarian club in the 74th minute, and Bayern crowned its first title of the season.
