The Supercup began with a memory of Gerd Müller, the game against BVB was decided by the player who comes closest to the idol: Robert Lewandowski. Julian Nagelsmann wins for the first time, Marco Reus still has big plans.

Applause for the greatest:

Before the game kicked off, spectators and players remembered the greatest German striker in history: Gerd Müller.

The Bundesliga record scorer died on Sunday at the age of 75.

Thomas Müller held up his jersey with the number nine, which was applauded by 25,000 spectators.

The »bomber of the nation« would certainly have liked that Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland, two of his kind, full-blooded strikers like him, faced each other.

The result:

FC Bayern Munich won 3-1 (1-0) at Borussia Dortmund in the duel between champions and cup winners from the previous season.

The goals of Munich were scored by Lewandowski (41st and 74th) and Müller (49th), Marco Reus scored for BVB (64th).

The first half:

The Supercup, just a title? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that. Both teams started with only one change in the starting XI and their best staff. Bayern mainly attacked the defense of BVB defender Felix Passlack, Dortmund wanted to put the storm duo Youssoufa Moukoko / Haaland in scene with speed. The first chance had Marco Reus, who failed in front of Manuel Neuer at the national goalkeeper (20th minute). Kingsley Coman (38th) and Haaland (39th) forgave, then Lewandowki hit Serge Gnabry's cross with a massive header (41st).

The eternal duel:

Bayern have recently won nine championship titles in a row. The big boredom is not only fed by the permanent number one, but also the cemented number two: Bayern and Borussia Dortmund faced each other in eight of the last ten Supercups. The last Supercup without either team? 1993, Bayer Leverkusen versus Werder Bremen. There is too much of a good thing.

The second half:

Alphonso Davies started, whose cross from the left Lewandowski extended with the heel and then hit - Müller, of course (49th). With a great right-footed shot into the corner, Reus brought BVB back into play (64th). The game was now on the brink. But a mistake in the structure of the up to then outstanding Manuel Akanji brought Lewandowski into a final situation that he rarely misses (74th) - 3: 1, the decision.

The second largest:

World footballer against potential successor, so the nice duel in the attack. Haaland played conspicuously, but for once did not score. Lewandowksi also played conspicuously and scored twice, as so often. It was his eleventh (!) Participation in the Supercup, with seven goals he is number one on the top scorer list of this competition. He also met in the 14th competitive game in a row. More often in German professional football (16 times) only one has achieved this. You guessed it: Gerd Müller.

First victory, first title:

An unfortunate preparation with half a band, the cup opener that was canceled due to Corona, the wild 1-1 at the Bundesliga start - Julian Nagelsmann had to wait 42 days for the first victory as Bayern coach, which promptly brought the first title. Nice quota. It's his first in professional football.

A little something is always possible:

The new Bayern boss Oliver Kahn had recently classified the shrunken squad as "excellent". This little fuss may have been due to the motivation of the existing staff, but the Munich team will not have a big season with only 13 or 14 great players. Sports director Hassan Salihamidzic opened the door for newcomers a little in the Sat.1 interview: "But we're watching the market, FC Bayern is always good for a little something." be the top.

The new, old Reus:

EM left out, the body spared, the desire for success found again - Reus presented himself again as the leader of a team that should not end up somewhere in the table, but at the top.

Two cup wins, three in the Supercup, that's the 32-year-old's title haul, which is downright ridiculous for a man in his class.

But there is still more lurking, at BVB and soon again in the national team.

The outlook:

Dortmund will play on the 2nd Bundesliga matchday at SC Freiburg (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.), Munich will receive 1. FC Köln (Sunday, 5:30 p.m.), before the first round three days later for Bremer SV to be completed in the DFB Cup (Wednesday, 8.15 p.m.).
