Freising

- Both Pavel Hanke and Kevin Rentsch proudly wore the Freising jersey for ten years or more.

But that will come to an end from the coming season: Hanke hangs up his skates completely, Rentsch moves to the district league.

Since autumn 2009, Pavel Hanke has been the tower in the defense of the Freising regional league club, which at that time was still called SE Freising.

The 37-year-old Czech had moved from the Bayern League from EC Pfaffenhofen to the cathedral city.

“I thought the time in Freising was great!” Is how Hanke sums up his work with the Black Bears.

“The team was always well put together, I met a lot of interesting characters and felt very comfortable.

There were a lot of nice people who took care of ice hockey in Freising and who supported us as a team.

I really liked it, otherwise I wouldn't have stayed that long. "

Training is getting more and more intensive - and the journey is not getting any shorter

The reason why the 37-year-old defender had already stepped down last season and why he is now going to hang up his skates is family nature.

Two years ago Pavel Hanke had become the father of a daughter.

During the Corona period, it became even clearer to him that he would like to spend his free time intensively with the family in Manching, said the 37-year-old.

Regional league ice hockey in Freising is no longer possible because of the intensity of the training and the travel distances.

In any case, Hanke will always remember the time when Freising was still played in the open air.

Just as much to companions like coach Christian Eibl or teammates like Martin Pouska and many others.

Pavel Hanke found the season 15/16 to be a special highlight, when he was promoted to the national league.

Reunion with old comrades in Dorfen

The 37-year-old defender shares this great experience with Kevin Rentsch, who joined the Freising squad in 2011. The striker was only 21 at the time and had played at EHC Munich and Erding in his youth. At the age of 31, Rentsch would like to have more time for friends and family from the coming season. He had a great time in Freising and it was an honor for him to have stood on the ice with so many great teammates. But in the recent past the fun has decreased a bit, according to the outgoing striker. His personal and professional situation has also changed and so he made the decision to continue his career in the district league at Dorfen 1b. There he will be with Alexander Völkl,Sebastian Thiede and Stefan Hummel find three teammates from their days in Freising. Together with these three specials, Kevin Rentsch would like to support the young talents in Dorfen.

Strange developments

The whole thing with less training and significantly fewer stakes.

In addition to the resurgence with the Freising team, Kevin Rentsch also fondly remembers the season 16/17, in which the Black Bears won their preliminary group under coach John Samanski.

After that, Freising ran out of steam in the second round, or the money faucet was turned on at other clubs.

A practice that is still incomprehensible for the now 31-year-old in the regional league.

Because at this level, from his point of view, the whole thing is still an amateur sport, where the aim should be to incorporate young talents from the next generation.

Rentsch thinks it's strange for him, "when you go to an ice hockey game after work and have to compete against six or eight foreign ex-professionals."
