What will Danny Abdia's second season in the NBA look like? On the one hand, with a new coach and in the absence of a dominant ball carrier like Russell Westbrook, a new window of opportunity should open for the young Israeli. On the other hand, the load of forwards on the roster could cut his minutes significantly.

General manager Tommy Shepherd has already hinted at the possibility that Abdia will go down to the bench next season, and the United States is confident that the opening small forward position will be staffed next season by Cantabius Caldwell Pop, who is set to match alongside leading guards Bradley Bill and Spencer Dinwiddie. In the opening power forward position, competition is expected between Kyle Kozma and Roy Hachimura.

"They have so many forwards, and assuming everyone is healthy and fit, at any given moment one of the players may dry up on the bench," Wizards reporter Fred Katz ("Athletic") said yesterday when asked to analyze the situation, explaining why Abdia is the "immediate suspect."

"Abdia could fall between the chairs, that's the most logical scenario. Rookie Corey Kispert's chances of getting significant minutes also seem nil. The staff is a bit unbalanced in that sense. There are too many players on the same positions. These are not issues Washington is used to dealing with, but it's a situation. "It's not clear how it will develop."

According to Katz, the team's forward position "screams to the sky that a trade should be made. It could be that Washington is still planning to replace one of its forwards with another guard through a trade. That makes sense."

"Athletic" commentator John Hollinger wrote last night that "Abdia was a top five player last season due to a lack of alternatives and hope. His level was below the NBA average.
