After 2020, the Ironman in Hawaii will also be canceled this year.

The legendary competition, which is also the world triathlon championship, is canceled again due to the corona pandemic and should be rescheduled in February.

This was announced by the organizer, which is now planning two competitions in Hawaii for 2022.

One in February, one at the traditional date in October.

However, the organizers had already forged a similar plan for this year in 2020.

“The resurgence of the virus and the new delta strain is having a significant impact on the island community of Hawaii.

Combined with significant border closings and travel restrictions for qualified athletes, there is no viable way to host the Ironman World Championship in October, ”said managing director Andrew Messick.

The traditional race of 3.86 kilometers of swimming, 180.2 kilometers of cycling and 42.2 kilometers of running had already been postponed for a few months due to the pandemic before it was finally canceled at the beginning of 2021.

The Ironman has been held in Hawaii since 1978.

The men have recently won six times and since 2014 only athletes from Germany, the women in the last edition in October 2019, Anne Haug triumphed.
