Jonathan Capitolnik, European Under-20 Champion in High Jump (Athletics Association)
Gold medal for Jonathan Capitolnik at the World Youth Athletics Championships.
About a month after climbing to the top of the podium at the European Youth Championships held in Tallinn, Estonia, the 18-year-old high jumper recorded a huge achievement with winning a competition held in Nairobi, Kenya.
He passed a height of 2.19 meters and that was enough for him for the prestigious victory.
Capitolnik gave up an initial height of 2.00 meters, and started the championship at a height of 2.06 meters.
He was then the only one to cross all heights in the first attempt: 2.10 meters, 2.14 meters, 2.17 meters and 2.19 meters.
The young Israeli holds a personal best of 2.25 meters and was the favorite to win in light of the fact that the Chinese jumper, Long Chen (who has a personal best of 2.26 meters), was absent from the competition.
