The German ice hockey women started with a victory in the world championship in Calgary, Canada.

The selection won their opening game on Saturday evening (local time) against outsiders Hungary 3-0 (2-0, 0-0, 1-0).

Youngster Nina Christof (13th / 14th minute) and captain Julia Zorn (53rd) scored the goals for Germany.

There were less than 60 game seconds between Christof's first goal and goal number two.

"For me it is already a dream come true to be here at the World Cup at all," said striker Christof, who was only 18 on Wednesday and was now recognized as a player of the game.

"Overall, it was a good teamwork by all of us." Coach Thomas Schädler said it took the team a little to get into the game, "but the two goals gave us the security we needed."

On Monday from 8 p.m. Germany will play the Danes in the second group game, who lost their first game against the strong Czechs 6-1.

Japan is the fifth team in Group B.

At least third place in the group is required for the quarter-finals.

After the corona-related cancellation last year and some postponements, which not only caused displeasure among Germans because of the sometimes short-term announcements, the World Cup will now take place at this unusual time, at the end of August and at the end of the summer break, in the Olympic city of In 1988.
