London winner Mareike Miller and five-time gold medalist Michael Teuber carry the German flag at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

This was announced by the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS).

The wheelchair basketball player from Hamburg and the cyclist from Munich will lead the 136-strong German team to the Olympic Stadium at the opening ceremony on Tuesday (1 p.m. CEST, TV: ARD).

For the first time, as at the Olympic Games, a duo will carry the flag when the German para-athletes move in - a woman and a man.

Like many other teams, the DBS team wants to set an example for equality.

In Rio 2016, long jump world record holder Markus Rehm was the German flag bearer.

For athletes spokeswoman Miller it is the third games, after gold in London, the 31-year-old won silver with the German wheelchair basketball players in Rio.

The 53-year-old Teuber has won five gold and one silver in his five participations on the road and on the track.
