Bremen / Munich - easy task or stumbling block?
FC Bayern Munich * will face the fifth division club Bremer SV in the first DFB Cup * round.
The duel had to be postponed due to several corona cases with the outsider.
The duel is a clear affair on paper, and wins are a must for FC Bayern.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann * has known that for a long time, of course.
A fifth division must not be a hurdle for the Munich team, who are record winners in the DFB Cup with 20 titles.
"The underdog will go to the limit, also physically," warned Nagelsmann, who had come from RB Leipzig in the summer.
"We have to adjust to that and win the game in the end, that's what we intend to do." The pairings for the second round will be drawn on Sunday, the games are scheduled for October 26th and 27th.
FC Bayern Munich: break for Neuer, Lewandowski and Goretzka
Three top stars from Munich will not be involved: Manuel Neuer *, Robert Lewandowski * and Leon Goretzka * will receive breaks from Nagelsmann. Goalkeeper Neuer complained about problems with his right foot after the Supercup. After the 3-2 draw against 1. FC Köln on Sunday in the Bundesliga, there was now, unsurprisingly, a slight reaction, the coach reported unconcerned. Forward Lewandowski and midfielder Goretzka should train in Munich. Sven Ulreich, Corentin Tolisso and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are the logical substitutes.
So three of the big names are missing - but how high is the risk of slipping for FC Bayern?
The answer: Probably not particularly high.
The record champions have survived the first round of the DFB Cup 26 times in a row.
The last lightning strike dates from 1994, when the new Bayern coach Giovanni Trapattoni experienced a disaster with the 0: 1 against TSV Vestenbergsgreuth.
The Munich team also failed against a team from the fourth division or an even lower class.
In November 2000 they were eliminated in the second round at 1. FC Magdeburg.
Game for Bremer SV "Century Game" - "We want to be cheeky"
Even if in the end there is probably a victory for the guest: A game against the great FC Bayern is a career highlight for a football player like Bremer SV.
Sports director Ralf Voigt has already dubbed it the “game of the century”.
From Bremen's point of view, that’s a pretty good thing.
“That is a highlight.
We want to enjoy that to the fullest, ”announced coach Benjamin Eta.
He and his team would have several goals against the star ensemble von der Isar.
"One of the most important goals for me is that we show that we can play football," said Eta.
