The goal must be to make it into the knockout round: Bayern Munich will face FC Barcelona in the group stage of the new Champions League season, and two weaker opponents are waiting in Benfica Lisbon and Dynamo Kiev.

That was the result of the draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

In the preseason, the new team of coach Julian Nagelsmann failed in the quarter-finals at Paris Saint-Germain;

Superstar Lionel Messi's new club from Paris is up against last year's finalist Manchester City in Group A.

RB Leipzig and FC Bruges are also represented in this tough group.

Borussia Dortmund's rivals in Group C are Sporting Lisbon, Ajax Amsterdam and Besiktas Istanbul.

BVB should be favored against these opponents.

VfL Wolfsburg was placed in the fourth and final pot, but they too escaped a tough group: The fourth German representative plays in a group with OSC Lille, FC Sevilla and Salzburg.

Here, too, advancement does not seem impossible - for this you need first or second place.

You can find all groups here:

The first matchday will take place on September 14th and 15th, the group stage will end with the sixth matchday on December 7th and 8th.

The finals of the premier class will take place in Saint Petersburg on May 28, 2022.

The current title holder is Chelsea FC with coach Thomas Tuchel.

Following the draw, the German coach was named Europe's coach of the year.
