Former world champion Fernando Alonso will also drive for the Alpine Formula 1 team in the coming season.
The team confirmed this before the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa (Sunday, 3 p.m., TV: Sky).
The 32-time Grand Prix winner made his comeback in the premier class of motorsport with the French team this season.
Now, with his experience, he should also ensure success in the coming year, in which a major rule reform is pending.
He has always spoken out in favor of necessary changes in Formula 1 in order to ensure fairer conditions, said Alonso.
"2022 will be a great opportunity for this," said the 2005 and 2006 world champions.
The 40-year-old's teammate will again be Frenchman Esteban Ocon next season.
The 24-year-old had surprisingly celebrated his first Grand Prix victory in Hungary before the summer break.
Before the start of the second half of the season, Alonso is eleventh overall with 38 points.
Alpine, the successor to the Renault works team, ranks fifth among the ten racing teams in the constructors' championship.
