Manchester City have suspended their left-back Benjamin Mendy.
The background is an investigation against the Frenchman, he is accused of quadruple rape and sexual assault.
"The charges relate to three plaintiffs over the age of 16 and are believed to have taken place between October 2020 and August 2021," Cheshire police said in a statement.
Police wrote that Mendy, 27, was in police custody and is due to appear in Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Mendy became world champion in 2018 with the French national team, he has played for City since 2017 and won the English championship title in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
His club from the Premier League has confirmed investigations against Mendy, the club did not provide any further information on the subject of the negotiations.
