If they did not break world records, the medalists of the Tokyo Games offered a beautiful spectacle to the spectators of the Meeting de Paris,

With more than twenty medalists from the Tokyo Games, the Meeting de Paris offered the French public very good performances.

If she did not break the world record in the 100m, Elaine Thompson-Herah has signed a new success this season, already marked by her three gold medals acquired in Tokyo.

Beautiful show also in the pole vault competition where Armand Duplantis seized the meeting record.

Premiere for Duplantis in Paris, Lavillenie disappointed

20 years old and already so solid.

Mondo Duplantis had an almost perfect competition this Saturday.

Entered into contention easily at 5.55 m, the Swede then crossed 5.73 m then 5.81 m on his first attempt.

After a failure at 5.91 m, the world record holder quickly recovered, erasing, again, on his first attempt, 5.96 m then 6.01 m.

A bar synonymous with a new meeting record and victory, its first in the French capital.

As in Tokyo, the pole vaulter tackled the world record, asking for a bar at 6.19 m, in vain.

Disappointment on the other hand for Renaud Lavillenie.

The Frenchman had announced that he wanted to take pleasure in the return of the public to Charléty, but unfortunately he could not really express himself.

After a first bar easily crossed at 5.30 m, the Frenchman failed three times at 5.45 m.

“There is a lot of frustration because I felt better today.

(…) In view of my warm-up, I could envision at least 5.55 m today or even 5.65 m and then try 5.70 m today, ”he regretted.

Thompson-Herah contented with the Meeting record

The world record seemed within reach, with a time of 10 ″ 54 set in Eugene (United States) last weekend, but Elaine Thompson-Herah failed to lower this new best mark.

In weather conditions a little less favorable than on the other side of the Atlantic (22 °, a little wind), the three-time Olympic champion nonetheless remained imperial, winner in 10 ″ 72 (+1.3 m / s) .

The Jamaican continues to crush the competition, relegating her first opponent, her compatriot Shericka Jackson, to 25 hundredths this Saturday.

Felix had fun

Seven years after his last appearance in Paris, Allyson Felix had a lot of fun on the track at the Paris meeting.

“It's always hard to pick up after the Games, especially after coming home, but it was great to be back here,” she said.

Third in the race in 50′'47, she ended her season with a good performance, "still reflecting on the rest of her career".

In this race, the French Amandine Brossier, semi-finalist of the last Olympic Games, could not do better than eighth place in 52''79, far from her personal best (51''25).

“I knew I was tired at the end of the season and that it was going to be difficult but I was hoping for a little better than that, she admitted.

The holidays will do the greatest good!

".

Martinot-Lagarde overtaken by pain

He had announced that he wanted to win in Paris, but Pascal Martinot-Lagarde could not finally go to the end of his 110m hurdles.

After feeling "a little alert" to the hamstring mid-race, the Frenchman, yet author of a good performance in Lausanne Thursday (13 ″ 17), preferred to stop his effort after the seventh hurdle.

In the same race, Aurel Manga took fifth place in 13 ″ 40, and the young Just Kwaou-Mathey finished seventh in 13 ″ 50.

Walkabout for the Blues

Back in front of the French public for the first time in Charléty since 2019, the French were able to enjoy a warm welcome from the French public. Clear victory on the applaudimeter for the Lavillenie brothers on the pole vault, Mélina Robert-Michon on the discus throw or for the high jumpers Solène Gicquel and Laureen Maxwell (1.89 m for the two athletes this Saturday). A great ovation also for Gabriel Tual at the start of the 800m. The nice surprise of Tokyo, 7th in the final, was able to take advantage of it before taking a solid 6th place in 1′45′'05. “I thought more runners were going to stop after the Games. Finally, all the Diamond League are of a very high level and we end up with the finalists of the Games each time, apart from one or two athletes. It's hard to find your place but I gave the best of myself ”,he explained at the end of his race.

Antoinette Nana Djimou and Kafetien Gomis, two former leaders of the France team who retired from sport this year, Kevin Mayer, silver medalist in Tokyo and the recent junior world champions Sasha Zhoya (110m hurdles) and Erwan Konaté (long jump) also had the right to their ovation.
