The accident occurred during a friendly match in the southern Bulgarian village of Lessitschowo, as the private television broadcaster

The 41-year-old coach of the Bulgarian club Hebar Pazardzhik, Ivan Ranchev, died on the spot.
He had participated in the game between two local teams as a player.
Three players were slightly injured in the lightning strike.
The stadium's lightning protection system is now to be checked.
A year ago there was a similar incident in Baden-Württemberg, when 15 players were injured and hospitalized.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities at the time.
