Formula 1 is back.

The second part of the 2021 season heralded the premier class of motorsport in Spa-Francorchamps.

There is a curious race day to read in the ticker.

  • The twelfth Grand Prix of the Formula 1 season was to take place in Spa-Francorchamps, the longest race track on the calendar.

  • Pole position was secured in the rain by Max Verstappen in the Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton came in third.

Sebastian Vettel started from fifth place, Mick Schumacher put his car on position 17.

  • On the day of the race, due to the constant rain, only a few laps were covered behind the safety car.

So Verstappen won ahead of George Russell and Hamilton.

Update from August 29th, 8:50 p.m.:

We say goodbye at the end of a memorable Formula 1 day.

As a bouncer, there are still the voices to the farce of Spa-Franchorchamps.

Update from August 29th, 7.15 p.m.:

Let's hope that was a one-time story.

Waiting so long to only see a few laps behind the safety car is bitter.

For everyone involved.

Update from August 29th, 6:50 pm:

Red Bull Motorsport Director Marko does not show himself

to be a happy winner

in the

Sky

interview: “We are not proud of this victory.

The organizers and those responsible tried everything to get the race over the stage.

But I don't think it's good that the audience was put off for so long.

It was not a pleasant racing day. "

Update from August 29, 6.45 p.m.:

Now it's official!

The race will no longer be started.

So Verstappen wins ahead of Russell and Hamilton.

It is the Dutchman's sixth win of the season.

Vettel is fifth.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: race canceled - but Vettel will probably get five points

Update from August 29, 6.40 p.m.:

With a probability bordering on certainty, Verstappen sinks 12.5 points in Belgium and would thus make up five points on Hamilton.

Vettel would have to take five points, Russel would take nine.

Update from August 29, 6:31 p.m.:

It all looks like Formula 1 is going to let the racing watch buy down and then announce the current order as the final result at 7:17 p.m.

It takes a bit of getting used to - but what do you want to do.

Update from August 29, 6:28 p.m.:

The red flag is out again.

That means: After just under ten minutes, the race is interrupted again, but it will probably also be stopped immediately.

Then at least half points can be distributed.

Update from August 29, 6:26 p.m.:

Perez is now at the end of the field.

And he seems to be hoping that it will soon be possible to drive freely here.

Certainly also out of self-interest.

Update from August 29, 6:23 p.m.:

The drivers do their laps with a respectful distance.

A good five minutes have already been completed.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: the race was still released in the evening - behind the safety car

Update from August 29, 6:20 p.m.:

Half points will very likely be awarded.

Because this regulation takes effect when at least two laps are completed and less than 75 percent of the race distance is covered.

And nobody here will be able to complete 33 laps in one hour.

Update from August 29, 6:18 p.m.:

The engines are running and the field is moving out of the pit lane onto the course.

The clock starts ticking immediately - the cars are supposed to do their laps here for an hour.

Update from August 29, 6:07 p.m.:

Now it's getting concrete.

At 6:17 p.m., i.e. in ten minutes, the race is to be continued.

But Formula 1 also wants to know directly.

Update from August 29, 6:07 p.m.:

Are we getting another Formula 1 race now?

Mayländer puts on his helmet and drives the safety car around the course.

Update from August 29, 6:02 p.m.:

As expected, the weather update will be postponed again.

Now 6:05 p.m. is the time of the times.

It's not been that long.

Update from August 29, 5:57 p.m.:

The game continues, now the next weather update is announced for 6 p.m.

Will it really happen then?

We will see it.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: One-hour race is apparently still to take place

Update from August 29, 5:47 p.m .:

The weather update is postponed to 5:55 p.m.

So nothing works here before 6:05 p.m.

But it is very likely that it will be even longer before the pilots get back into the cockpits.

Update from August 29, 5.44 p.m.:

In the meantime, cleaning

vehicles

are on the route that are supposed to free the asphalt from the water with the coarse brush.

But that turns out to be difficult because there is uninterrupted replenishment from above.

Update from August 29th, 5.30 p.m.:

There should be a weather update in a quarter of an hour.

Then it would be at least another ten minutes before the drivers could be sent on their way.

The current plan is for a one-hour race to take place.

But stopped for the countdown clock.

So everything is still open.

Update from August 29, 5:25 p.m.:

Nothing new in Spa yet.

There is still nothing to suggest a timely start.

But there is not much time left if points are to be distributed here.

Update from August 29, 5:10 p.m.:

Actually, it should be clear by now that a normal race will start here.

At most, the vehicles will be able to turn a few laps behind the safety car.

With that, the Grand Prix could at least be rated.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: Current racing situation apparently unclear

Update from August 29, 4:50 p.m.:

Apparently there are also different opinions as to whether the race has even started.

Or was it two laps of formation before the cars were steered into the pit lane?

Update from August 29, 4:38 p.m.:

The Perez vehicle

that hit the tire wall

about two hours

ago

is apparently

roadworthy

again.

After hectic activity in the Red Bull garage, the privacy screen was removed.

And a roadworthy bolide appears.

A miracle of technology!

What a masterpiece from the Milton Keynes crew.

Update from August 29, 4:34 p.m.:

Williams team boss Jost Capito considers a race postponement to Monday to be ruled out - because of the GP of the Netherlands that is already in seven days.

Of course, he also hopes that two laps will be driven behind the safety car in order to be able to distribute championship points.

His driver Russell would benefit from that.

But Vettel wouldn't mind either.

Update from August 29, 4:31 p.m.:

The pilots are meanwhile in the teams' garages.

Many sit and wait for things to happen.

Update from August 29, 4:25 p.m.:

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto does not believe in a timely start, but expects that it will still take a bit of patience.

He also points out, however, that due to the F1 rules, the traffic lights have to go out no later than 6 p.m. - i.e. three hours after the actual start time.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: Perez could still take part in the race after the crash

Update from August 29, 4:20 p.m.:

Perez could be the beneficiary of the whole situation.

The Red Bull crew is working feverishly on the damaged car, and the winner of the Azerbaijan race may still be able to take the steering wheel.

Update from August 29, 4:17 p.m.:

Russell admits in an interview that even at 180 km / h visibility was virtually zero, especially behind another vehicle.

Therefore, the interruption was the right decision.

The Williams driver advocates doing at least a few laps in order to be able to award championship points.

That is only too understandable in his situation, after all, there is even a podium for the actual backbenchers of Williams.

Update from August 29th, 4:10 p.m.:

There are more and more

signs

that it will hardly be possible to release a reasonably responsible race here today.

It's raining and raining and raining.

Update from August 29, 3:58 p.m.:

It remains completely open whether and when the race will continue.

The weather remains modest.

Update from August 29, 3:46 p.m.:

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner fears that everyone “still has to be patient”.

In the

Sky

interview, the Briton explains that things would only get worse before they could improve.

Beat Zehnder, sports director of Alfa Romeo, made a similar statement on the station.

According to the Swiss, a postponement to Monday is open because the teams then have to make their way to Zandvoort.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: Race interrupted after two laps behind the safety car

Update from August 29, 3:32 p.m.:

And the time has come!

The race controllers interrupt the race, there is the red flag.

That is probably the only sensible decision.

Now, however, the vehicles are lined up in the pit lane.

Update from August 29, 3:31 p.m

.: The cars continue to curve over the asphalt behind the safety car.

More and more drivers complain about poor visibility.

Hardly anyone wants to be let off the leash here now.

That would be just too dangerous.

Update from August 29, 3:27 p.m.

Bernd Mayländer is now

accelerating

in the safety car and opening the formation lap.

The pilots line up behind it and circle the course.

Let's see how long that goes well.

Update from August 29, 3:24 p.m.:

Apparently the rain should

last

at least 20 minutes.

The start is further delayed.

Update from August 29, 3:17 p.m.:

Now it is clear that this plan cannot be kept either.

According to the current status, the engines will remain inactive until 3:25 p.m.

Update from August 29, 3:15 p.m.:

The cars are still standing still on the grid.

Now it should only start at 3:20 p.m.

Will the weather really get better by then?

+

Not to be envied: The Formula 1 drivers have to contend with the most adverse conditions in Spa-Francorchamps.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: start postponed by ten minutes due to heavy rain

Update from August 29th, 3 p.m.:

Now the start has been postponed.

According to the current status, the traffic lights should go out at 3:10 p.m.

Update from August 29, 2:56 p.m .:

So it's about to start.

In any case, the weather promises a varied race.

It's hard to predict who has the best cards here.

Update from August 29, 2:45 p.m.:

Vettel kneels down as usual as a sign against discrimination and racism.

He wears a T-shirt with the slogan "Climate Justice now" - that is, climate justice now - to draw attention to climate change and its consequences.

Behind the slogan is a campaign by more than 400 non-governmental organizations.

Update from August 29, 2:40 p.m.:

In the

Sky

interview, Red Bull Motorsport Director Helmut Marko reveals that Perez had given aquaplaning as the reason after his departure.

From now on he was just a passenger.

Marko himself considers the conditions to be "borderline", but since it is raining continuously, a postponement of the start is not necessarily to be expected.

It is possible, however, that the race behind the safety car will be released.

Update from August 29, 2:37 p.m.:

The vehicles are getting the final touches on the grid under the pavilions.

That way, the cockpit stays reasonably dry.

Update from August 29, 2:28 p.m .:

That doesn't exist!

Sergio Perez flew towards the starting grid on his lap.

The Red Bull has hit the piles of tires.

This means that the Mexican, who had to vacate his cockpit for Vettel before the season, is only a spectator today.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: Mercedes keeps secrecy about the driver pairing for the 2022 season

Update from August 29, 2:25 p.m.:

The drivers are currently testing the wet track and complaining about their suffering. Because maneuvering the cars over the asphalt is anything but a pleasure. In the meantime, Lando Norris can start, he only suffered "a few bruises" from his crash.

Update from August 29, 2:15 p.m.:

Daimler board member Ola Källenius and Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff can not be looked at in the

Sky

interview.

Although a decision has already been made about the driver pairing for the Silver Arrows for the 2022 season, this will only be announced at a later date.

Hamilton has a contract for the coming year, Russell is the favorite for the second cockpit, Valtteri Bottas is only given outsider chances to stay.

But we still have to be patient.

Update from August 29, 2.10 p.m.:

Schumacher will start the race from 17th place because Stroll has been moved back five starting positions.

The Canadian was punished for having caused an accident in the race in Hungary.

Update from August 29, 2:05 p.m.:

This GP weekend marks the start of a three-pack.

Verstappen's home race in Zandvoort is scheduled for next Sunday, and Monza will host Formula 1 seven days later.

Formula 1 in the live ticker: Mick and Vettel rave about a new helmet with Schumi design

Update from August 29, 1:58 p.m.:

Schumacher has his new helmet at hand during the interview - the copy is reminiscent of his father Michael, whose terrific F1 career started 30 years ago in Spa-Francorchamps.

"It's very simple, but also very beautiful," says Vettel and expresses the hope that the Haas pilot will continue to wear the helmet in the coming weeks.

“It's an emotional bond with the helmet or the design,” enthuses Schumi Jr.

Update from August 29th, 1:55 p.m.:

As in yesterday's qualifying, it is pouring over the track today.

That speaks for an exciting and spectacular, but also dangerous race.

Schumacher hopes for "an action-packed race", as he

reveals

on

Sky

.

Vettel expects "great risk".

Update from August 29, 1:50 p.m.:

The title race is more exciting this year than it has been in a long time.

Hamilton recently took back the top position and is eight points ahead of Verstappen (195: 187).

Vettel has 30 points and is twelfth, Schumacher is still waiting for something to be counted.

With the teams, Mercedes has also turned the tables in Hungary and is twelve points ahead of Red Bull (303: 291).
