Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy to remain in custody ahead of possible rape trial after bail application denied,

. The 27-year-old human rights defender is charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault at his home in Cheshire. He was taken into custody at HMP Altcourse, Liverpool, after being denied bail by Chester Magistrates' Court. Judge Steven Everett has denied another bail application at Chester Crown Court. The Habs international is accused of assaulting three different women, including one under the age of 18, at her home in Prestbury, Cheshire. Three of the rapes reportedly took place in October 2020 and he is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in early January 2021. He is also accused of raping a woman in August 2021. The footballer, who has been suspended by the club in the meantime investigation,is scheduled to appear before Chester Crown Court on September 10.
