Olchinger Denise Schindler missed her second medal at the Paralympics in Tokyo.
In the road race, the racing cyclist was only fifth.
Olching
- Denise Schindler had all hopes for the street race on Friday. In this discipline it should finally work out with the longed-for first gold medal at the Paralympics. But the Olchinger racing cyclist has to postpone the gold project to the next games in Paris in 2024. The athlete, who had amputated the lower leg, finished fifth in her last appearance at the Tokyo Games. The bronze medal in the pursuit on the very first day of the competition remains the only precious metal that the 35-year-old takes home.
The road race led again over the Fuji International Speedway, where Formula 1 is usually at home. The time trial, which Denise Schindler finished in ninth place, had already been held here on Tuesday. After the race she struggled with the hilly track profile. And even in the road race on Friday, the Olchinger could not really come to terms with the track conditions. She was behind early. At the end of the 39.6-kilometer course, the 35-year-old was 2:43 minutes behind the winner, Keiko Sugiura from Japan.
