The THW Kiel started the announced title hunt by winning the handball supercup.

On Saturday evening, the team of trainer Filip Jicha won the Supercup for the eleventh time with a 30:29 (17:14) against cup winner TBV Lemgo Lippe.

The record champions' best thrower was Niclas Ekberg with five goals.

For Lemgo Gedeon Guardiola was the most successful with seven goals.

“I am very happy to have won this game. I really liked the setting today, ”said Jicha on Sky TV. “That was a good game and makes you want to go into the season.” Lemgo's coach Florian Kehrmann, once at TBV teammate Jichas, also praised his players for a “great performance”, but also admitted: “We had too much respect and then had to do a lot go to great lengths to stay in the game. That takes a lot of strength. "

While the TBV attacked a lot looked like hard work, the Kiel team, who started the new season without a new signing, always came to an end far too easily. So Kiel was able to work out a four goal lead (8: 4) for the first time after twelve minutes. Lemgo, on the other hand, failed twice in the first round with seven meters at the strong Kiel goalkeeper Niklas Landin. This is another reason why Kiel always kept the Lemgoers at a distance, although Lemgo's goalkeeper Peter Johannesson also showed some strong saves.

In the second half, Lemgo came up to one goal again thanks to the former Bundesliga top scorer Bjarki Mar Elisson and the Spaniard Gedeon Guardiola (43.).

As a result, however, the Kiel, who raised almost every attack against star player Domagoj Duvnjak, took control again and maintained the narrow lead.

Only a few fans there live

The return of the fans was somewhat disappointing.

Up to 8,000 spectators were allowed into the hall, in the end 3007 had come.

“We would certainly have wished for more.

It would have been possible to do more, «said league manager Frank Bohmann.

“That also shows that it is not a sure-fire success.

It will look similar in some locations.

Some of the people will first have to be won back. "
