World Cup qualification: Netherlands celebrate their first victory under van Gaal, France is still waiting

The qualification for the soccer World Cup 2022 has reached its halftime with contested games. The French disappointed again, Austria went under. The Netherlands won for the first time under their new coach.

France's national soccer team has been

waiting for a success across all competitions for five competitive games.

The 2018 world champions only scored 1-1 in qualifying for the World Cup on Saturday evening in Ukraine.

France's last victory so far was at the European Championship when coach Didier Deschamps' team beat Germany.

Mykola Schaparenko scored the opening goal for the home side (44th).

Anthony Martial equalized five minutes after the break.

France had bad luck in the final quarter of an hour when Moussa Diaby only hit the post, but is still at the top of Group D.
