Gordon Herbert is the new national basketball coach

Former Bundesliga coach Gordon Herbert will be the new national basketball coach. The 62-year-old Canadian succeeds Henrik Rödl, whose four-year term ended at the end of August. "Gordon knows many players, has trained many players and has an extraordinary international reputation that fits perfectly and well with basketball in Germany," said Ingo Weiss, President of the German Basketball Association, at the presentation on Monday in Hagen. First, the magazine “BIG - Basketball in Germany” reported on the personnel.
Herbert was most recently assistant coach of the Canadian national team, last season he worked as a club coach for the Russian club Avtodor from Saratov. In his long career he trained in Germany s.Oliver Würzburg, Alba Berlin and several times the Skyliners from Frankfurt. He had suspended his coaching contract with Hessen from March 2019 to look after his home country at the World Cup in China, among other things.
He should now lead the German team around leader Dennis Schröder to the home European championships next year with the preliminary round in Cologne and the final round in Berlin.
In addition, qualification for the 2023 World Cup in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines and, associated with this, also for the 2024 Olympics in Paris is pending for the DBB selection.
At the Summer Games in Tokyo, the German national team was back at the Olympics for the first time since 2008 and only eliminated in the quarter-finals against European champions Slovenia.
