Quite a bit of Barcelona's poor condition over the years and its decline in status is attributed to captain Gerard Pique.
The brakeman who was an integral part of the big team that has won the Champions League three times and three times in addition to all possible titles, has recently received no small amount of criticism for his ability, attitude and personal pursuits, which many believe hurt his produce on the field.
Today (Tuesday), Pique revealed that even during the Guardiola period the pressure exerted on him was enormous.
"Pep wanted complete control over everything that happened," Pique recalled in an interview with Marca.
"We have already reached a peak of tension with him. In general, the atmosphere in the locker room in general was stressful. The rivalry between him and Jose Mourinho was very exhausting."
Pique claimed that when he started dating singer Shakira, with whom he now has two sons, Guardiola did not exactly support: "Once we started dating, my and Pep's relationship changed."

"I was under quite a bit of pressure," the brakeman continued. "I felt I had to do everything perfectly in training. If there was one moment when I thought about leaving Barça, it was then in the summer of 2011." As you may recall, that same year Barcelona won the Champions League, the Spanish Championship and then the World Club Championship.
In addition, Pique also referred to the team's former president, Joan Laporta: "I don't know if the worst, but he sure is there 'at the top'. We are all to blame, but it is true that the club is not in the places where the Catalans want him to be." Although Barcelona now do not look like the formidable team they were until a few years ago, Pique actually radiated optimism about the following: "I am full of excitement about the future. The next five or ten years will be very good for Barcelona."
Our current coach Ronaldo Koeman also referred to Pique: “President Juan Laporta needed some time to make the decision whether to sign Koeman or not.Now I think he's the ideal coach. "
