Spanish football boss relaunches war with PSG

2021-09-07T18:02:08.246Z

While Nasser al-Khelaïfi had sharply reframed Barça and Real on Monday, Javier Tebas, the president of the Spanish Football League

At this level now, we can almost speak of obsession. It seems stronger than him but Javier Tebas, the boss of the Spanish Football League did not resist the pleasure of tackling once again the PSG which he accuses of being a club-state and of distorting everything in the economics of football. This time, on the occasion of the presentation of the Panini 2021-2022 album of the Spanish La Liga, Tebas brought out the tackle box. He first quipped about the age of several players: "PSG looks like the League of Legends when you look at the age of some of its players," he began first. Obviously he is targeting Leo Messi (34) and Sergio Ramos (35). Not sure he would have made the same little joke if the two men had stayed in Barcelona and Real Madrid…

But Tebas then criticized the spending of the Paris club.

"There is data which shows that this (Editor's note: the Parisian project) is not viable," he said.

Today, PSG is spending more than 500 million euros on salaries, while there have been the losses linked to the Covid, and the decline in TV rights in France.

It is not viable.

(…) We have been denouncing PSG and Manchester City for several years and we are going to start over.

"

Before raising a threat:: We will solve the problem of the PSG.

What PSG is doing is as dangerous as the Super League.

We are going to fight against the club-states, which are as much our enemies as the Super League.

"

"El PSG parece la Liga de las Leyendas por la edad de algunos de sus jugadores", affirmed Javier Tebas https://t.co/G6YUwVzNV7

These threats should not shake Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the president of PSG. The day before, on the occasion of the general assembly of the European Club Association (ECA), Al-Khelaïfi showed that he was rather in court with UEFA. He thus announced the establishment of a debt fund of several billion euros, as well as an emergency fund common to UEFA and the ECA. The president of PSG also announced new regulations for Financial Fair Play "with the aim of strengthening relations between UEFA and ECA". For Al-Khelaïfi, these are “two sides of the same coin”.

Above all, he had sharply reframed the clubs at the origin of the Superleague (which Tebas also fights): Juventus, Real and Barça. "I do not like to give too much importance to the makers of fables and to chess", he launched before continuing: "While the three rebel clubs waste energy, distort the stories and continue to shout to heaven, the others are moving forward and focusing all their strength on building a better future for European football, united and together.
