Peiting - The beginning has been made: After a tough week of training, EC Peiting completed its first two test matches, twice the opponent was Red Bulls Salzburg II. Anton Saal's team defeated the young bulls 5: 4 on their own ice after a penalty shootout.

Two days later the Austrians retaliated, also with a 5-4, also after extra time.

"Those were two good tests against a strong opponent," said Saal after the Salzburg double.

Victory and defeat for the EC Peiting against Salzburg II

In the away game last Sunday, the Peitinger coach only had three blocks at his disposal, as the young players in the DNL team were in action and the returnee Florian Stauder was unable to work. “In the first third we had heavy legs,” reported Saal. The Red Bulls' junior squad, which played completely with U20 players, determined the game and consequently took the lead 2-0.

In the middle section, the Peitinger slowly found their way into the game.

Daniel Reichert also scored the next goal (25th).

The ECP only really got going in the final round.

“We had a couple of good changes there,” said Saal.

Thomas Heger (46th) and twice Marco Habermann (49th, 52nd) also brought the guests in the front.

Salzburg equalized immediately afterwards, so that it went into overtime.

There Peiting missed the decision, which the young bulls made after less than a minute.

EC Peiting kicked off the home game in front of around 200 fans

Two days earlier, after a year of spectator abstinence in front of around 200 fans, the ECP also started the preparation against the Salzburg young bulls. The guests, who are already at the end of their test game phase, showed, as expected, a high level of running effort and an enormous pace. "You could see that the Bulls are much further ahead," said Coach Saal. He had to watch how his team made a lot of stick errors and inaccurate passes. “The timing wasn't right,” said Saal. The ECP initially fell behind in the first round (12th). Reichert almost equalized in return (13th). Nardo Nagtzaam's opening goal to make it 2-1 (18th) only lasted for a very short time, because the Salzburg team made it 2-2 (19th) before the first break.

In the second half, the home side presented again. But also the 3: 2, achieved by Heger (24th), had an extremely short period of expiry. After the 3: 3 (25th), the ECP had the opportunity to add more results during a five-minute excess. However, this project was not crowned with success. “Salzburg shot on goal more often than we did,” complained Saal. Power plays determined what happened in the further course, without both teams having made any capital out of it. Only in the final third did Andreas Feuerecker bring the hosts back into the lead - 4: 3 (46th). Eleven seconds before the end of regular time, the guests, who had previously taken their goalkeeper off the ice in favor of another field player, equalized 4: 4.

No goals were scored in extra time. The decision only brought the penalty shootout. As is customary at international level, five shooters per team competed instead of the three usual in the major league. Of all the shooters here and over there, only Ty Morris was successful - and that ultimately helped the Peitingers to victory. “We still have a lot to do,” was Anton Saal's main finding. The Peitinger coach and his team still have a little time until the next preparatory game. The game at Bayern League side Kempten (7.30 p.m.) is only on the program on September 17th.
