After a spectacular final phase, Hamburger SV prevailed 2-1 against SV Sandhausen and won again in the 2nd Bundesliga after four games without a win. In a game that HSV dominated for almost the entire season, David Kinsombi gave the home team the lead with a penalty kick (74th minute). Marcel Ritzmaier had previously seen the yellow-red card as part of the penalty decision after kicking the penalty spot in front of Kinsombi (72nd). Janik Bachmann brought Sandhausen back into the game (87th), Moritz Heyer scored the late winning goal (90th + 5).
HSV was overwhelmingly superior in the first half, but either did not play their attacks consistently enough or failed due to the strong Sandhausen goalkeeper Patrick Drewes.
Robert Glatzel set a shot too high from a promising position (6th), Manuel Wintzheimer aimed too much in the direction of Drewes (26th).
Several other chances also did not lead to a goal, for which it then needed a mishap of the guests: Erik Zenga brought Sonny Kittel down in the penalty area, the action had a penalty whistle in favor of Hamburg, the yellow-red card for Ritzmaier's unsportiness and Kinsombi's lead Episode (74.).
Sandhausen will be stronger when outnumbered
Instead of gaining even more security in their own game, HSV suddenly allowed more chances with one man. One of them used Bachmann, who had been staged by outside striker Christian Conteh, who had trained with Hamburg city rivals FC St. Pauli, among others (87th). After the equalizer, HSV threw everything forward - and was lucky that Drewes injured himself in the Sandhauser goal in stoppage time. The goalkeeper could not react quickly enough to Heyer's shot shortly before the final whistle (90. + 5).
"You can see that he's only limping there," said Sandhausen's right-back and ex-HSV professional Dennis Diekmeier after the game.
"If he hadn't been injured, he would have kept it." With the happy but well-deserved victory, Hamburger SV keeps the gap to the top of the table in the second division within limits.
With a win on Saturday in the derby at Werder Bremen (8.30 p.m., TV: Sky, live ticker: SPIEGEL.de), Hamburg now has the opportunity to overtake their northern rivals in the table.
