Damascus-SANA
Equestrian sports are many and varied, and our riders have practiced them for many years, from jumping hurdles to races of speed, endurance, dressage, picking up pegs, and military and heritage shows, the last of which is archery.
Horse archery is a new sport that has recently entered the Police Club, and since its adoption as a basic game, work has begun on preparing its own team to participate in international tournaments, as the world championship in Iran will be the first in the next few days.
SANA’s sports representative met with the head of the Police Equestrian Club in Damascus Countryside, Lt. Col. Mahmoud Al-Masry, who said, “Shooting is one of the ancient games that go back hundreds of years, and work is being done to activate this sport in the club by providing all its requirements in addition to other approved sports that cover all equestrian games. First places in various competitions.
Al-Masry added... Shooting joined our club this year and two months ago our team was invited to participate in the world championship in Iran and then began to work intensively in preparation for the championship, explaining that he and jockey Walid Khawajkeh will represent the team participating in this championship, pointing out at the same time that the championship will be held with the participation of more than 40 jockeys. From different countries of the world, where each team is allowed to participate with two knights.
In turn, the jockey Walid Khawajkeh referred to the good preparations that preceded the tournament through intensive daily training on the club's track to compete strongly for the advanced positions, indicating that he participated in various international tournaments during the previous years, the most prominent of which was his participation in the German Championship and his third place.
Khawajkeh pointed out the strength of this sport, as it requires the jockey and the horse to the highest levels of concentration, so the jockey when entering the race and executing the shooting should never think that he is executing the shooting on horseback because the factor of harmony is great between the two parties and therefore the Arab horses are selected for these races to distinguish them in strength and intelligence from the rest world horses.
