Dembélé on his way
The OL striker is reborn under the orders of Peter Bosz with already his 4th goal in 5 Ligue 1 matches. Yet little served on the front of the Lyonnaise attack which has leaned a lot to the right, Moussa Dembélé especially lit up this Sunday night with a fantastic goal. A chest / half volley sequence that left Mats Selz there. With this achievement, he now leads the scorers standings alongside Kylian Mbappé and Amine Gouiri. Captain at the kickoff, Moussa Dembélé perfectly returned the confidence given by his coach.
Denayer, the boss is back
Entering the second half, Jérôme Boateng may have made his debut in Lyon, the defense boss is Denayer.
For his first start of the season, the Belgian brought the stability so sought after by Peter Bosz.
Throughout the match, he managed the depth perfectly and even signed a saving comeback in Gameiro's feet in the first period (30th).
His excellent match was rewarded with a goal that gave his family a break.
Associated with Boateng at the end of the match, their agreement is promising.
LiveSolid and easy against Strasbourg, OL confirm improvement
First success for Shaqiri
Shaqiri was expected and he responded present. Beyond his good individual performance, it is his understanding with his teammates that should be highlighted, especially with Gusto. The two were constantly looking for each other and gave a lot of trouble to Caci and then to Liénard, the latter having also left the lawn on a stretcher at the end of the match after a discomfort. The Swiss was also concerned defensively, like his return to Ajorque in the 38th. Beyond that, the former Reds spoke his vista and his power throughout the match. Shaqiri then concluded his game with a magnificent first assist for Denayer. A successful first for the Swiss, who offers a little more variation on the Lyon attack front.
Guimarães the metronome
Summoned with Brazil during the international break, his state of form was a question.
But from the first minutes of play, Guimarães showed that he was having a great night.
With a masterful opening, he is a decisive passer on Dembélé's goal.
His move less well in the first period coincided with the resumption of form of Strasbourg.
In the second half, the Brazilian midfielder resumed his march forward and the rest of his match was a festival of technical gestures but also of accuracy in the organization of the Lyon game.
With a Guimarães at this level, not much can happen in the middle of OL.
Flops
Strasbourg's failing attack
Faced with Lyon's control, Strasbourg will have had the merit of trying to project themselves against, but the visitors' offensives were either too timid or too imprecise to succeed. In addition, Stéphan's men will have had the opportunities to come back to the score, in particular through Gameiro who missed his face-to-face with Lopes in the 55th. Ten minutes later, OL doubled the mark. Overall too timid to worry Lyon, Strasbourg may have some regrets.
The too lax hinge of Strasbourg
From the outset, we understood that the defense of Strasbourg was going to live a complicated evening. The central Stéphan had a hard time managing the depth and the long game of the Lyonnais like Dembélé's first goal, but above all they seemed to be wait-and-see on many Lyon chances and strikes. Denayer's goal and the many freedoms granted to Lyon attackers entering the area can attest to this.
Toko-Ekambi a notch below
Toko-Ekambi was Lyon's least prominent player this Sunday evening. Off center on his left side, the OL striker did not manage to create many differences and had too few opportunities to eat. He did not negotiate well his only clear opportunity which occurred in the 4th minute of play. Little in sight since the start of the season, Toko-Ekambi will have to correct his position if he wants to keep his place in the 11 Lyonnais.
