Barcelona woke up this morning (Wednesday) to a new and painful reality, after the slap in the face they received from Bayern Munich in the opening round of the home stage of the Champions League.
The Spanish media claim that the pressure on Ronald Koeman is increasing following the 3-0 defeat, and according to "El Cheringito", the coach was called at the end of an emergency meeting with President Juan Laporta.
It was reportedly a "difficult conversation", with both sporting director Matteo Almani and Vice President Rafael Yusta remaining at Camp Nou long hours after the game.
According to further reports in Catalonia, the candidate to succeed Koeman on the lines if the Dutchman is indeed fired, is Jordi Cruyff.
Ex-Maccabi Tel Aviv, who is defined as technical director and actually serves as Laporta's immediate advisor, has previously insisted that he has no intention of replacing Koeman and has no ambitions to return to the coach in the near future, but Laporta sees him as a reasonable default and is convinced he can serve as temporary coach until the end of the season.

At the same time, Cruyff will not be in a hurry to agree to such a decision. He is reportedly not interested in the job and like many other professionals, "realizes he has mostly something to lose" if he takes on the challenge of stabilizing the team that seems in clear decline. The option to appoint Xavi as coach is also out of the question at the moment, both because of the refusal of the former player and due to the doubts that Laporta has about him.
Either way, reviews of Laporta are also growing. The president has not previously hidden the fact that Coman (who arrived at the time when Joseph Maria Bartomeu served as president) is nothing more than a default for him, and the mutual accusations between him and the coach in the days before the game against Bayern did not contribute to the mood at the club. Although Laporta made a public statement of confidence in Coman before the game and said he "trusted him", Barcelona know that these are statements from language and pressure and that he does not really believe in him.

On the other hand, it is doubtful whether another figure on the lines is capable of changing Barcelona from end to end.
The current staff looks unimpressive, immature and not competitive enough, and even in Catalonia it is understood that no professional will be able to change that.
"This defeat is the best thing that could have happened to Barcelona," says former agent and current commentator Joseph Mingaya.
"Barça is like Milan five years ago. The players are not at the required level. So they will fire Koeman and bring in another coach, who will achieve exactly the same results. What can be achieved with that?"
