Eintracht Frankfurt started the Europa League season with a draw against Fenerbahçe.

In the home game against the club from Istanbul, Frankfurt, where coach Oliver Glasner was in the stands due to a suspension from his time as coach of Wolfsburg, scored 1-1 (1-1).

Ex-national player Mesut Özil, who fell apart with the DFB in 2018, had given Fenerbahçe the lead on his sporty return to Germany (10th minute), while Sam Lammers equalized (42nd).

In stoppage time, the events rolled over: First, Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp brought Dimitris Pelkas down in the penalty area, then Trapp held the penalty against the fouled.

U21 European champion Mergim Berisha shot the margin into the goal - but because he entered the penalty area too early, the hit did not count.
