Bayern Munich will have to do without the French national soccer player Kingsley Coman for the time being.
According to Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, the winger had to undergo surgery on Thursday for a "minor cardiac arrhythmia".
Coman should be back in team training in one and a half to two weeks.
"It sounds much more dramatic than it is," said Nagelsmann about the operation: "He is doing very well, he has minimal wound pain." Coman recently complained repeatedly of breathing problems or a brief drop in performance.
Investigations had found that his heart was occasionally activated to an additional beat.
During the operation, one of the cords leading to the heart was therefore obliterated to prevent this blow.
"It's not so blatant, several people have that," said Nagelsmann, "but it makes a difference whether my greatest effort is going to the refrigerator and getting myself a cool light - or whether I'm a competitive athlete."
Nagelsmann explained that there was only a "manageable risk" during the procedure on the groin.
Coman is scheduled to start cardio training again on Tuesday.
