Many years later, the consequences of an even worse skiing event are the reason that his family no longer allows the public to participate in the life of the seven-time world champion.

Schumacher fought with his Ferrari team-mate Eddie Irvine and the Finn Mika Häkkinen in the McLaren for the world championship.

On lap one he wants to pass Stowe Corner - but his brakes fail completely.

He races unbraked into the tire wall, his bolide is smashed.

"My heartbeat became less and less, less and less," says an older sound recording by Schumi in the documentary.

"Suddenly I feel that my heartbeat has stopped completely," he says of the crash.

"I then thought: This is how it must feel when you are on the way up." But Schumacher survived the accident and soon returned to the track after broken bones and bruises.

In the following season he started his incredible winning streak of five world championship titles in a row.

"It was always as if he had guardian angels to take care of him," says his wife Corinna * in the film a little later.

"I never thought that anything could happen to him at all." The documentary does not provide any information about the exact current state of the legend, and that was not to be expected.
