Cycling: Romain Bardet, sick, will not participate in the World Roads

The World Road Championships will be held without Romain Bardet, once again.

The Team DSM climber has announced his package for the meeting organized in Leuven (Belgium) on September 26th.

The Auvergnat was part of a list of 13 preselected runners.

He has not played in the competition since 2018, when he became vice-world champion behind Alejandro Valverde.

In question, a health glitch.

“He called me to tell me that he had caught a cold after the European Championship (last Sunday, in Trento, Italy),” Thomas Voeckler told the Team.

"Nothing serious but, after a few days of rest, he could not train properly and he told me that he would not be 100% at the World Cup," he said.

List of 9 runners soon revealed

Romain Bardet had also announced his package on the Olympic Games for the online event, preferring to focus on the next events with his DSM team, joined this winter. In recent weeks, the tricolor had signed a 12th place at the European Championships, and a stage victory over the Vuelta. Romain Bardet was therefore on track to be included on the final list of nine riders, alongside the defending champion, Julian Alaphilippe. The provisional list includes Benoît Cosnefroy, recent winner of the Bretagne Classic and bronze medalist at the European Championships, Florian Sénéchal and Anthony Turgis. Thomas Voeckler, the manager of the France team, will announce the selected tricolor cyclists on Tuesday, September 21.
